Tanto...Good,bad, or just ugly?

 ...The first time I saw a chisel grind I thought it looked cheap.
Tantos had to grow on me, but chisel ground knives are worse than useless. The vast majority are ground for left-handers. If you go to cut wood, the grind puts the flat part directly between you and the wood. But this is necessary for cosmetic reasons. If you're left-handed, no problem -- the edge is at a good cutting angle. The edge will bite into the wood and you have all the control you need.

CRKT's M16-14SF/A is otherwise a great knife, but the grind is on the left side of the blade. To cut wood I have to hold the knife in my left hand, and this is difficult because I'm right-handed.

As for the tanto blades, I find them difficult to sharpen, but I like that secondary edge and the point strength. And I like the looks of the blade. Like I said, it had to grow on me, but I love Cold Steel's old Gunsite design, and make mine double grind.

I have never found a Tanto to limit me in any way. The primary edge is great for utility cutting and the secondary edge makes an excellent scraper. What is not to like?

Right on!
