i dont think either one is any harder/easier to sharpen than the other.
when i 1st started collecting knives i really liked tantos and had a lot of them, BM stryker, spyderco lum, emerson CQC7 and SOCFK to name a few, i also edc'd one or the other for a few yrs, though there are better choices for utility use a tanto will really do anything a knife needs to other than maybe really fine stuff, though a drop point will also do it all, and is probably a better utility knife, imho both will work fine for SD too.
nowadays i pretty much prefer the drop point, its just a little better all around blade imho, but nothing wrong with tantos either, a spyderco lum tanto is as good an edc as there is imho.
a lot of tantos are chisel grinds and i suppose a lot of folks dont like CG's as they have trouble sharpening them & they are not as good as a std "V" for utility tasks, but i have found them easy to sharpen and they too will do most anything a std "V" will do, barring any really fine cutting anyway. i simply dont see why some folks find tantos easy to sharpen and others find them so hard, its not rocket science, sure they are different than other designs to sharpen, but not harder, i dont think so anyway.
it just depends on what ya want and why ya want it, both are good imho, drop point "V" grind, tanto appleseed, tanto CG, all good.
