Tanto or Insingo?

Planning on picking up my first small Sebenza but having a hard time choosing between the two blade profiles.

Initially I was attracted to the Insingo but now the Tanto has really caught my eye. I know the Insingo is a great slicer but the shape kind of reminds me of a kitchen knife (which is no doubt why it's such a great slicer). The Tanto has such an awesome grind and from some vids I've watched on YouTube, it appears as though it actually has more cutting surface than the Insingo even though it is lacking the belly of the Insingo.

So I guess I'm looking for someone to really convince me one way or the other? :D

Just in general (not CRK specific), I have no need for a tanto blade. I think the insingo or regular is the way to go:)

I edc'd a tanto for awhile and ended up hating it for edc. That is from someone who was neutral to start with btw. Not having that curve, or belly, I ended up with uncut places sometimes. It's easier to roll the knife on the belly (like chopping veggies) than drag it through, like you'd have to do with the tanto. And you have to start deeper with the tanto to reach where it touches the board.

Now, that being said, that's my opinion. It's what I found I favored after toting a tanto.y opinion is also that I would prefer a normal small sebby and insingo large as aarger kinde is better for actions that I find I like insingo blade for. Again, strictly an opinion since you asked lol

I recently got an Insingo--a really useful blade shape. I wouldn't look once, let alone twice, at a "tanto".

No, no guys. You're supposed to be reinforcing my desire for the Tanto, not dissuading it!

lol Thanks for the input/opinions so far!

I'd go small regular (not the 21) and large for the insingo. I think the insingo blade in the large would better suite it's profile over the small. For a small ya can;t go wrong with the regular.

Tanto...I have both a tanto Sebenza and a tanto Umnumzaan. I'm a fan of the style and it serves me well for my menial cutting chores. That being said...an Insingo is on my short list...probably a micarta one at that. The style just strikes me and by having all 3 blade styles I can change them up in my edc as the mood strikes me.

+1 Insingo. I love my small micarta. I owned a CRK tanto. It was very nice but I think the insingo is more functional (for me at least) and it is much easier to sharpen.

Just a couple of comparison pics. These are both larges but I'm sure the smalls are comparable.

As to a preference, I have none. I carry and use both and love them both. They're equally smooth and lock up equally.

Both will cut so I guess it's your personal preference for blade shape that'll have to inform your decision. :)

I vote Insingo; but only if you can appreciate a blade profile that looks like a bad-azz mini-cleaver, while simultaneously appearing poised to kick the crap out of all your other knives (minus a Zaan if you have one).:D

If on the other hand, you can appreciate a blade profile that looks confused, unfinished or appears as though it became disoriented as it traveled down the assembly line and eventually reached the cutting-blade station backwards, then by all means, get the Tanto.:p

I love my new Small Insingo!

I took this at the beach this weekend. It made a great EDC and I love the shape of the blade for food prep.

I had a tanto knife and sold it. I believe a tanto is used for piercing more than cutting. I like the fact that the Insingo has a nice belly to the blade. I have NOT owned an Insingo yet, but want to.
If I were military, I would carry an Emerson tanto.

Well I ended up ordering a small Insingo, I'd still like to get a Tanto someday, but for now the Insingo will do.

I wanted to get dual silver thumb studs but could only find a single blue. I understand it's a $35 service to get it swapped out? How does one go about initiating this service? Just emailing Customer Support at chrisreeve.com?
