Tanto or Insingo?

I EDC'd a small insingo and loved it!... until I pulled the trigger on a small micarta insingo... which I now EDC:D

You did the right thing.
You know it was only a question which one first.
I'll bet you will end up buying that cool Tanto too.

Hope this helps. ;)

Ha! Yeah you're probably right.

Only thing that concerns me about that Tanto is that badass bevel that really sets it apart from all other Tantos imo. It looks awesome, and is probably the sole aspect of it that attracted me to it in the first place. But I got to wondering what it would look like after repeated sharpenings....I can't tell if there's a secondary bevel on it for the actual edge or if that is the edge bevel.

Well, it came in yesterday. Unfortunately it's insanely tight. Very difficult to open. I took it apart, lubed and reassembled but there is no change.

I reluctantly emailed CRK about sending it in to have them look at it. What's everyone's experience with this? I had emailed, them last week about swapping in double thumb studs but never got a response, which has me wondering if I'll get a response to this one or not.

I would just try the washer sanding hacks/tricks found on YouTube but I feel like this is far too expensive a knife to have to mod it for functionality.

To end on a positive note. I really like the knife. I was kind of surprised by just how small it was. Initially it had me wondering if I should have went with the large since opening it feels so awkward with my big hands, but I'm convinced once I get the tightness problem sorted out the size won't be as much of an issue if at all.

Have you tried to slightly polish the washers with something like Flitz?
Of course you have to clean them thoroughly before reassembling.
Hope this helps.

Wait for a response from CRK or call them. I'm sorry to hear it is excessively tight right out of the box. Seems like you did the right thing by cleaning it, just be careful in how tightly you torque the pivot bolt. I haven't had that experience; let us know how it works out.

p.s. I have a large and am thinking of getting a small--I probably need one of each.

To me, a tanto is for self-defense. It enhances the piercing capabilities but nothing else. Tantos suck for normal cutting tasks. That's just my opinion based on my experience.

By the way, where did you order your Sebenza from? I'm about to order my first Sebenza and I'd prefer to avoid picking from the same litter.

Terminus,

I had the same problem with the small I bought new about a month ago. I ended up sending it in rather than doing any mods. Figured that a new CRK knife should be up to specs and if not, should be corrected by them. They had the knife back to me and functioning perfectly in well under two weeks from the day I mailed it. They also covered the shipping both ways. I love it now. Before it was physically painful to open and close, now it's effortless to operate.
