Tanto style blades, what's everyone's feelings?

^^ Sounds like a candidate for a Give-Away... After all, you did just recently break the 1,000 post threshold - congrats!

I find tantos interesting, but find non tantos better for normal day to day use. Unless I am stabbing holes in car doors.

You can say I love them.

Never realised most of my collection has been reduced to tanto style blades over the years. That was completely unconscious, I realised it now.

There must be a reason, for sure.

I suppose it's ease of sharpening, looks and versatility.

They fit my EDC needs the best, mostly tip scratching, stabbing, slicing boxes and packages and some prying.

Never had to skin an animal.

Never found myself in a situation where I wish I had a different blade shape.

My other favorite shape is wharncliffe and reverse tanto

Of course, YMMV depending on your daily activities

Have a Mini Grip tanto---hate it----pretty much useless to me

I have to agree with you here. Some knives they work on and look good like the Strykers I bought, but on a Mini Griptilian the Hollow Grind and the regular drop point look so good that I couldn't ever get myself to buy a Grip Tanto. Hey, that's why they make different blade shapes, for different people.

I am not usually a fan of Tanto blades but I picked this TNK small Sebenza 21 off the forum and man it is a sweet little knife. I love the way Reeve does it.

love me a good tanto design.....very utilitarian blade shape. Here is a tanto conversion I did on a ZT 0095, she was a good cutter before, now she's a BEAST!

I like them.
I've been using my Strider DB-L for a while now and have no complaints. I did remove the black out coating and reprofiled the cutting edge a bit.

I do love the traditional and reverse tanto.
(I've never like the modern tantos - they've never done well cutting for me and they look much uglier imo)

i used a tanto at work for years, chisel ground, breeze to sharpen, good for cleaning up coping cuts and hacking 2x4s. it's called a cqc-7, i think ;). seriously hard worker for me,YMMV. Czechmate- i want a tanto bull dozier now:eek::D, sure would "cut" down the wait, :)
thanks, Neal

It was a fun knife; heavy but definitely solid and I was using it way beyond what I should've to get the tip to snap like that LOL. :foot:

Once the tip was fixed I sharpened the false edge too.

Always hated american tantos, never felt any benefits during use.
