Yesterday a thread was posted about a BK5 fighter, and it eventually got around to MyWifeThinksImCrazy's post about a BK5 Tanto.

I posted the question about what the big deal with tantos is, and about the only good answer was "they make my heart flutter..."

I had a mini version of the -5, the BK15, sitting around with no mission yet, and I thought, "What if you just wanted to get into a SMALL fight?" :D
Actually, I wanted to try a tanto for myself and try to see what the hoopla was all about.

So I got to work on the blaster and grinders, and after a couple of hours I got what Bladite calls "the ghetto fix"!
Meet the Mini Tanto Tweener!:

Oh, I can hear those hearts a-flutterin' now! :D Well, all except Clich, who is torn between liking tantos and abusing one of his favorite knives...

What the photos don't show is all the edge grinds are polished to a mirror finish. Also note the .060 Kydex scale spacers, referencing another of today's threads.

Well, SOMEBODY had to do it...

Tantos are nice, but I will say, aside from fight/self defense points, I can't find a good reason to use one, being that the Americanized tanto (squared angle) is designed to pierce kevlar, and the original (Japanese original curved design) was designed to pierce the armor of other warriors, making them both fighting blades.

Still, very nice and me likey! :D

Nice job K-9!!!! I can't say that I'd know what to do with it but it sure is beautiful.

oh SNAP!

K9...I wonder sometimes if you're really an evil genius hiding in your lair with a bunch of Becker blades....LOL

I actually kinda like it. It's weird, I dont like tantos, hate them even...but for some reason they look ''at home'' on the 5 and 15. Kinda like how they look good on the Japanese swords, I guess maybe it's a matter of what style knife the tanto is on.....I have never seen a tanto folder that wasn't dog-hideous.

That .60 looks kinda thick, I dont think my .80 is gonna work at all.

I don't know if I should say this, dont wanna encourage your evil ways.....but, nice job brother.

So how much would something like this run me? :D jk. Looks sweet. Wish I had one

I don't see how that is necessary for anything, and I can't imagine how it could be better than the original tip design, but I still think it's awesome. :D

The work looks solid on that, and I like the liners. Is the point nice and sharp? Can really tell from the pictures.

I would still prefer to have the 15 blade. I've tried tantos (CRKT, CS, Kabar) and just couldn't ever get to like them.

Hahaha, that answers my question: "who's gonna be the first...?"
Nice work, k9. How do you feel about it now?

Eh. Still don't see what the big deal is.

Guess I don't have enough Samurai armor to pierce through to make it worthwhile... :o

Man that is cool! Has to be one of my favorite mods of the last 6 months or so. Awesome work K9, you are a master at what you do.

i've never used a tanto so don't know much about em but this still looks very cool.

Dude, I really dig it! Of course, I carried a Benchmade Stryker for years so I'm not prejudiced against tantos.

I loves me a tanto, and that is pretty damn sweet lookin. While I struggle to find a practical application for a tanto tip over say, a drop point or a clip point, I just really like the looks, and coming from a background in Kum Do/Ken Do and similar sword arts, the blade shape holds significance for me from an esthetic and nostalgic sense.

You need to send it to me for proper testing and verification. :D

I like it! I'm gonna get one done as soon as I can.

Thanks for posting!
