Anyone get the latest copy of Blade magazine? In the 10th Anniversary of TNK, there are some special knives; and one of them is a Tanto Umnumzaan. It looks cool. Now mind you, I am not into tanto blades, but this one looks good. Have you seen it???

I just got my copy of blade and I was just as surprised. TNK sure knows how to time it right before BladeShow too.

Also have to say that I'm not a fan of Tanto either had a CQC-7 and hated it. BUT this and the new BM 760 are making me change my mind.

The CQC-7 is a chisel grind, my tanto Sebenza is a hollow v-grind with a convex front edge, which is probably the case with the new Umnumzaan. You gotta know it will sell out so fast, the metal will glow! :)

Could you tell me if the latest copy is May or June so I can order that copy?
I love tanto blades. I have one of the 200 limited tanto Sebenza. This would be one special knife(Umnumzaan tanto with the mystery steel). :)

Here is a picture of the knife, permission given by Neil to use it. It the July 09 copy of Blade. No, this is not the Umnumzaan with the mystery steel; it is CPM S30V.

Actually, it was Blade Mag that let the Cat out of the Bag on this one.

Got that right Esav!

very interesting. i think i like it. i hope to handle one soon, regardless of the blade type.

This will be interesting.
A hollow ground, Tanto...
nope!

I just spoke to Chris, to be sure that what I was thinking was correct.

All the Tanto folders that he and Chris Reeve Knives have made, including the NICA ones, for the last 20 + years have been hollow ground.

He went on to pay tribute to his dear friend, the late Bob Lum, who Chris credits with designing the first American Tanto, which was a hollow ground blade.
Now, Bob Lum also made flat ground Tantos as he saw fit, but the originals were all hollow ground as well as most of his work.

So, if you would like to have any more information re this, you may call Chris at the shop- he should still be there. The number is 208-375-0367. Also, he is always there before 7am Boise time.

Take care and regards, Neil / TNK

The regular Umnumzaan doesn't hold any appeal for me, but THAT is a Blade of BEAUTY!!!

I NEED that one!

Thanks for the pictures!

Very interesting. I love my Umnum (has not left my pocked since getting it back from Barry). I am just not sure I would like it as much with a Tanto blade. The regular blade has grown on me over the past months. However, it looks like fantactic work.

nope!

What's wrong? You say that as if there's something inherently wrong with the combination.

This is the same basic geometry as on the tanto Sebenzas. I think it's pretty practical - and it is definitely very attractive.
