Tantos, why so much hate?

One of my first good knives was a tanto. I used it for everything and loved it! I would say they get a bad image though. I even have poor thoughts of them from the junk knives trying to reel in the ninjas and such.

I have not used it yet. My EDC is a partially serrated M390 707. That was also a test in revisiting serrations...


The point where it meets the belly, is it a sharp point or a bit rounded?

I personally like the tanto blade.
 
I like a good tanto blade. They are very good for light scraping, and fine/detail cutting - two things I seem do somewhat frequently. They aren't much good for slicing, however.
 
If you click the link you can zoom in better. If you see the reflection you can see the edge is a little shoddy right there. It would be a sharp point if you sharpened it right. I guess ZT uses belts? If so it's all too easy to round a tanto slightly. On my stone it will become sharp sharp.
