taperd tangs how to get the scales to match

I taught myself how taper a tang free hand
i was wondring how do you get the wood the same,just sand it like the tang I have
not tried the wood yet I would like to hear
from others to see f I am on the write track
I did my tang on a disc.

I taper the tang right up to the bolster and leave the scale on the tapered side a bit thicker. The scale sits flat on the tang and I just sand it paralell to the the other scale.
