I tapered a few tangs this weekend! Didn't even ruin a knife either. Woo-Hoo.

Thanks to Gerry Drew for showing me how when he visited.

Man, so busy. Sorry. Pics will have to follow.

Well Andy you going to share the method? :p

I usually run a hollow grind down the center of the tang then flat grind. Seems to put less stress on the belts and goes a lot faster for me.

Just cut the taper with A wire EDM ;);). i also do use the hollow grind method. it seams to work the fastest.

Did my first tapered tang on a keeper I'm working on.

I tried the hollow grind method and had trouble getting a straight groove (what can I say, I haven't spent the time to learn to hollow grind). Instead, I just marked the tang centerline, started a 45 degree grind, and worked it up. The Blaze 60 grits didn't have too much trouble getting it there :D. That and it was a small tang (small EDC).

I'll post pics once I get the knife finished.

Nathan, I'll be honest, I don't worry about getting the hollow too straight, in fact I kinda wobble it around to get it close to the edges.
