Tapping titanium

I haven't done much but I do it by hand with some cutting oil.I use a drill bit 5 thousandths smaller than the tap. The small screws are the hardest and I have already snapped a tap. I talked to an old timer and he told me that he has a foot operated control on his drill press and uses it to tap his.I don't know where to pick one up but if I did I would buy it for sure.

Darrel How do you tap yours?

I probably have one of the strangest ways. I use a Skil Power Plus rechargable screwdriver with a small B&D chuck. I've been doing it this way for 12 years and very seldon break taps (even 0x80). The torque is just right. I use the old type Winbro Tapfree.

Kit, do you set it up and just run it right thru or do you occasioaly back it up to clean out debree

Hey Kit what percent of thread are you using?
John Smith said he was putting a differnt angle on the front of the tap?

I use a taping head for everything except 0-80.. I also use roll taps instead of cutting type taps.

Ray Rogers gave me a tip, but i havent tryed it yet. Put the tap in the drillpress and turn the chuck by hand.
