Tariff War

Unfortunately for the rest of the world China is a major supplier of Rare Earth Elements vital for modern communications and military tech. Specifically, China has
the stranglehold on Heavy REE's and they pull out the old strategic minerals bat whenever someone objects to their ham handed foreign policies. Every country in
the West needs to pay attention to the source of their strategic minerals, and it better not be a potential adversary.

The historic trade boycotts against the Apartheid regime in South Africa failed utterly due to the RSA's strategic and precious mineral wealth. No amount of outrage
can hold a candle to significant reserves of gold, diamonds, Platinum Group Elements and REE's.

Exactly. I will say this. Trumps fair tax offer to all countries, could be better for those countries if they don't let their foolish pride get in the way like China and Canada are. Argentina and Vietnam and several more countries have already agreed to zero tariffs. No tax. This benefits them more than the US, because as the largest consumer in the world, the US outbuys every trade country. I can tell you no one is buying much from the US in Vietnam or Argentina. But the US gets a lot from them, beef, wine, coffee, clothing, etc. China would be winning on a zero trade tariff deal. But their ignorant pride is getting in the way. lol.
All fairness we’re talking knives and swords …🗡️🔪🗡️

Not food and cost of living for people and there families..

We will all see and feel how this plays out on both sides I’m sure !

BUT … let stick to the serious infi🥓we all love

I wouldn't say they failed utterly, we had to buy Fuji film instead of Kodak!;)

I'm not sure it's exactly pride. I'm pretty sure rest of the world considers us as arrogantly prideful as well, most well before Trump.

Tariffs can be used effectively, however, implementation this time, especially the way you describe it isn't exactly that.

Take Madagascar as one example. Which faces a 47% a tarrif due to trade imbalance. Madagascar exports textiles, earth resources and over 50% of global vanilla.

On average Madagascar population makes less that 1,000 a year. Let me know what can we export to Madagascar that anyone there can afford? The trade imbalance comes from poorer population.

Can we replace vanilla domestically? In no way that is economically feasible.

This isn't even about buying domestic goods, or jobs being too low paying for us to take them. There is no need to apply comparative advantage theory.

Yes, we will hurt Madagascar, probably a lot more than bakers, barristas, etc. in USA. To us that will just translate into just raising our own price on Vanilla.
