$tarmate, what's up with the price?

I remember traveling in Japan in the late nineties and the exchange rate was 120 to the dollar and now it's down to 80, a third drop in value. The dollar has been getting hammered lately plain and simple. No doubt this is a major factor in the price of the Starmate.

It's interesting how these threads go. I had never noticed this knife before and, as a result of a post saying how expensive it is, I end up taking notice of it. What a cool knife! I really like it!

Spydiefox - I'm going to second what Duro says. You will get immediate results from an Edge Pro (haven't tried the Wicked Edge). I thought I'd have to practice a while but within the same day I was getting great results. It's all about performance so having a good sharpening system is highly recommended.

I ordered 2 Starmates and both of them have that ugly looking nub section. While it obviously won't affect the ability of the knife, I feel a bit disappointed that this seemed to be considered "okay", especially since the price seemed a bit high due to where the knife was manufactured.

Other than that I think the knife is great. It's a definite step up from the previous release IMO, feels sturdier and more "complete". I'm gonna put it in the rotation and see if it can dethrone the Military/Para as my EDCs of choice.

I'm no economics major, but Japan's economy isn't doing to well at all either. It's a bit unsettling to see them being able to one up us on exchange rates given their situation. If this trend continues, it may make more sense for American companies to manufacture at home which is a totally good thing anyway.

My Endura has a tiny rough grind block too...My Military also has a slight grind near the base of the edge that's impossible to hit with the wicked edge, kind of curved near the base. I'm not too concerned. I'll have to snap pictures.
