Tarnish from slip

Nickel silver is basically brass (~60% copper?). Brass/Copper interacts with leather. That's why my custom Buck 119 has a Kydex sheath. There are some nice nylon/etc. pocket knife slips that I suggest to use instead.

I decided to try using a slip because I hate the feel of loose objects in my pocket and thought maybe a slip would help "flatten" the knife against my leg and keep it positioned upright. And it actually has made a big difference so I'll likely continue using one. Sounds maybe like I might have to find one lined with fabric or silk or something.

Mine forms this greenish gunk when I carry my Boker barlow in CK slip, but I can just rub it off with my thumb. Start all over again 😄

I try to never leave Any Knife in Any Sheath overnight unless the blade is Stainless . I used to carry a Norhtfield 77 Barlow a lot , summer and winter , in one of CK's sheaths . Not any problems at all , but it has Steel Pins and Steel Liners too . You have to be careful with Brass Pins and Brass Liners and Moisture and Salt , or perspiration used in Stag and Light Colored handle material . I have never paid that much attention to the kind of tanning used for the leather , but more learned people than I believe that there is something to how it is Tanned . This is not a New Subject and that is fine . I have some Used To Be Beautiful knives that do not look so good now because of the Verdigris . I myself would like to know more about what the Tanning Process may have to do with it .
