And me. I have been to Edradour as well. I seem to remember that is the smallest distillery in Scotland? Also been to Stonehaven Distillery, as I worked across the stream from it, Glenfiddich, and a couple of others along the Glen.

The speciality here is Canadian Club! :barf:

I knew Laphraig wasn't how it was spelled. I will bow to Maximus's local knowledge and being a Scot. Laph-royg it is.

Yes...Edradour is quite proud of being the smallest. And it has a wonderful taste.

Still intend to get to Skye and visit Talisker!

I am not sure what Edradour means when they say that they are the smallest distillery in Scotland. Certainly not in terms of amount produced, and they are very heavily into marketing.

Not one of my favorite drams by any means, but definately drinkable.

Back in front of the old work console today after spending the past few days busy with wedding stuff. One of my duties as best man was to provide liquor for the pre-wedding festivities. I stopped by the local BevMo! for the first time on Friday. That place was like a kid's candy store--except it's for grown ups and they sell liquor instead of sweets. My eyes must've been popping out of my head as I looked over the selection, it was pretty substantial. However, I did not get any single malts as I did not think the others would appreciate. Well that and the fact that if they were just going to down shots, might as well stick with the Grey Goose and Patron and Malibu with cranberry for the girls.

I also stopped by Trader Joes as it was on the way. They didn't have as many offerings as BevMo!, but they did have some Laphroig and Macallan 12. The Macallan was a private bottling though, exclusive to Trader Joes. Just what exactly is a private bottling and is it different from the Macallan 12 that is available at other places? Thanks again guys, this thread has been very educational.

A private bottling simply means that someone (individual or organization) purchased one or more casks from a distillery or consignment palce--and bottled it. You can do the same if you wish and have the money. I have done it. Some of the distilleries have active sales programs to do it.

Many companies exist that sell whisky like this--the independent bottlers. They will buy up casks, and sell them under their own label, noting the distillery, year of distillation, type of cask, and age when bottled. A number of these are sold more cheaply than the distiller's own label, so the independent bottlers offer a chance to sample the products of many distilleries far more cheaply.

And on the other hand, some of the independents hire master distillers to pick the best of the best, and their bottlings are far more expensive.
