I know very little about a tactical knife. my nephew is in the marines and wants me to make him one. here is a pic of what I have so far.

[/IMG] will be many more holes drilled as soon as I figure out where to put them. the 2 in front will allow the knife to be put on a gun and used as a Bayonet. or that's my plan anyways lol.
I would like to put the rubber material like gerber has on theres for a handle but I know nothing about it. if that's not a possibility I may just go with paracord, or textured g10. any suggestions are welcomed.
the knife is 11 oal the blade is 5.25. steel is 1095 from jantz. 3/16 thick.

Why many more holes? If you want a rubbery type handle, you could try horse mat. It doesn't look pretty but makes for a great handle.

A good military use fixed blade is going to do many things. In my experience, it is first a prying tool. It will be used to cut the wire seals on ammo crates and then break them open. It will be used for prying open doors and gates. It will be used for hacking wood, cutting 550 cord, opening MRE's, digging small holes, and playing chicken. It will never be used as a bayonet even if you did have all the specifications for the attaching points. It is very, very unlikely that it will be used in self defense or in any role as a weapon. The only time I ever attached a bayonet to my rifle was for training and parades. On my last deployment to Iraq, my entire brigade left the bayonets at home. Not to say having a good last ditch weapon isn't a good idea. I carried a machete, a Applegate-Fairbairn, and a Kershaw folder in addition to a Glock and an M4. I tried carrying a SOG 'hawk but it got hung up on everything and made my commanders nervous. But I digress; make the knife a strong chopper and pry-er, easily sharpened, with a comfortable handle that doesn't cause hot spots.
