alchohol makes ypur blood thinner and makes you bleed easier. Always tip the artist!!!! don't scratch it. Pat it or slap it but never scratch it. Direct sunlight will pull the color out until the tatt is healed. Avoid it as much as possible. Be prepared to get more, it's addictive

Aye, its good that you're thinking about it. I have two - one on each shoulder. I got the first when I was eighteen in a drunken bet. I got the second when I was in my early twenties, also drunk and in rather dodgey circumstances in an Argentinian parlour. I don't regret them, they're part of who I am; but certainly if someone had said to me "wait until you sober up pal!" I might be a slightly different person :D

and they'd probably be different tattoos!

:p

Could be worse, I have a crazy mate who belongs to a very crazy group of mates who like to go camping and drink together. Whoever gets so drunk that they fall asleep first gets branded with bent 5mm wire from the camp fire. Those boys are nuts.

Damn they must be morons. Sounds like fun though :D

Awesome stuff man! I've been thinking about taking a road trip around town and talking to some tattoo artists and see what they have to say.
Just out of curiosity, how did you find an artist that you liked?

I was extremely lucky to have a good friend who is very talented. The problem with that though, he is always out of town doing commissioned work in Europe and Asia, or trade shows around the US. His name is Lane Turowski, look him up. Start paying close attention to other peoples work, and ask them if you see a style you like. People with tattoos love talking about theirs! :D

Awesome, will do!

Thanks for the advice, I really do appreciate it.
Yes, I have noticed people like talking about their art.

Tats are a wast of money!!!
I'll say that again...a waste of money!!
Especially for what they cost now days.
They will degrade/fade over the years & will require re-inking if you want to keep 'em looking good.
Look at an old mans tats and ask yourself if you want something like that on your body when you get old.
Also ask yourself if you are going to want to go through the hassle and increased cost of re-inking in 10-20-30 years.

I have 6 tats. The first I got in 1976 & the last was in 1985 and all have colors that are fading.
I had the first one redone in the early 80s because it was fading and it is now faded again.
It's not just fading that's a problem either, the outlines can thicken & obscure fine detail work also.
Not all of my tat's lines have thickened mind you, but enough that it is noticeable.
Some lines have just faded like the colors also.

SAVE YOUR MONEY AND BUY MORE KNIVES INSTEAD!!:D

At least you'll get tangible return on your investment.

Just my opinion of course and YMMV.:)

Edit to add..sorry, no pics.My camera is a cheap POS P&S.:p
