Taum Sauk Mountain State Park

Looks like you guys had fun on your anniversary! Congrats.

Concerning your balance issues with the pack weight and terrain. Trekking poles make all the difference. It is like having 4 feet instead of 2. You can test the footing before you commit your body weight to it. They help my knees alot doing downhill. Much more stable overall. If you don't need them all the time your pack should have a spot to lash them to on the outside.

Looks like a great place to hike and explore! Thanks for sharing the pics. The pics of the icy waterfalls are very nice.

Hiking with a heavy pack really is a big change from just hiking with a camelback or day pack. It's hard to really test your gear until you're out using it! Looks like you took away some valuable lessons and had a great weekend.

Thanks, it was a blast. I sure did learn some valuable lessons. Always nice to get out and test some new gear.

Thanks man. I have one trekking pole, and forgot to take it. It was even on my list, haha. Need to get another.

Great pics, the ice and water fall pics are awesome. Thank you for sharing and congrats to you and your wife also on the five years.

Thanks gents, appreciate it. Look forward to returning there. Many miles left to hike there.

Happy anniversary bubba! It really is a BEAUTIFUL area! I've been there a couple times, it is only about an hour and a half from me so I've gone there a few times.

Thanks, appreciate it. It's a point and shoot camera. I enhance them using the GIMP program.

Awesome shots! What's that software? If it does that to point and shoots then I'm all over it!

Or are you kidding and you use an awesome digital SLR?

I use a Sony point and shoot, then render using the GIMP program.

You should, it's free, and all kinds of tutorials out there.

Great pics and observations, Dubz.

It's been several years since I've been to the Taum Sauk area, but the trail still looks the same, rough and rocky like all of Southern Missouri.
