Tauriel's forward curving Elvish daggers from The Hobbit

- Given that these daggers exist in a world where a ring can turn you invisible and a flying dragon can breathe fire, I think a knife that isn't 100% functionally correct is a small thing to suspend your disbelief over. ;)

They don't have magic rings and dragons where you live? Dude, you need to move! You're missing out on all the fun! :D:p

I kinda like those. Maybe I'll experiment with a similar blade-style. Nice thing about being a hobbyist is that you can just make whatever you want.

Also, her character's existence is stupid. She's not an actual character, and the whole dwarf-elf romance thing is silly, unnecessary, and adds nothing to the story. On the upside, she's good-looking, which isn't nothing.

The Philippine Marines are all issued a Ginunting, with a downward curved blade. It serves as both a machete and a close combat weapon. Philippinos are well regarded for their tradition of edged weapons.

I would love to see what you'd come up with!
And about her character; I have mixed feelings. Do I kinda roll my eyes every time the throw in a Xena type character in epic fantasy adaptations? yes; do I think that her existence does little to further the plot? Yes. Do I also find the notion of Dwarf/Elf romance/crush rediculous? Heck Yea!
Am I'm glad she's in the movies?
...Yes...and here's why, my wife (see "knife disliking spouse" thread) says that she doesn't like the Hobbit or LOTR movies because there aren't any characters she "connects" with. I feel that Tauriel will draw more people from the "Tolkien, Meh!" crowd to be at least admirers of the films, if not fanatics (like me, who listens to his unabridged audiobooks all the time of the Hobbit, LOTR, and the Silmarillion!). But that's a different forum! :)
