The Firearms Blog reports that Taurus has pulled their proposed 28 gauge shotgun/revolver after the feds said they would classify it as a short-barreled shotgun:

I know manufacturers use these trade shows to "float" radical new items and see the response, just as the auto industry does with it's "concept" cars.

Looks to me like a rather unpractical piece... Huge to carry around, less effective than a typical "tactical" shotgun....

 :barf:

I think Taurus just threw it out there to keep the Smith copy of their Judge out of the press. Seems to have worked.

I was looking forward to this one. I was thinking MagTec brass cases, black powder and 55 caliber lead slugs. Sort of a modern version of the great old British hand cannons of the 1890's.

Hehe--- "Howdah" pistols. Took a man's man to hunt tiger from elephant-back, and even more of a man's man to fire one of those big pistols....

IMO it was a totally silly and impractical idea for a handgun, but it honks me off that the jokers from the BATF can just make up their own rules that have nothing to do with the laws and regulations as written. :grumpy:

Looks like it would have a small niche as a home defense gun in places where overpenetration is a serious concern, or perhaps as a anti-carjacking device. More of a novelty than anything else.

But you could still fill out a Form 4 and get one from a Class III dealer in most states -- but in that case I'd rather have an actual 20 gauge. Dick Cheney blasted some old guy in the face with 28 gauge birdshot and he was doing talk shows a couple days later.

I've read the regs and laws, how did Taurus think this would qualify as a pistol? It has a bore of more than .5 inches, readily takes shotshells - it seems straight up like a short barreled shotgun.

To the best of my knowledge, if the barrel is rifled, it is not a shotgun. It is a handgun/pistol/revolver.
