Tax refund---what knife to buy???

spyderco Kiwi w/ jig bone handle. Have'nt gotten this one yet myself, but its either #1 or #2 on my list! :D :D :D

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Microtech. There are several hard-use knives to choose from in that price range. The Socom Elites are still around, as well as the UMS, and even an older Socom would be a great user, if you can find one. You don't HAVE to get an auto, but it would be cool, if you are allowed. Protech also has some good user autos, like the TR3.

I don't know much about the Spyderco ATR, but that looks to be a pretty stout knife, with premium materials.

I will also second the SERE2K, BM710, and Spydie Mili, as well as add the BM 730 series. For the price range you're looking at, I suggest a 730CFHS. Okay, I'll also have to strongly suggest a Microtech LCC. One beautiful knife, that is made to take a beating.

I know these are probably not in your realm of experience, but they all do deserve a look. Expand your horizons a bit.:D

Well, while I love the AFCK and BM products in general, I am not sure that the AFCK could be described as particularly tough. The blade is thin and tapered, designed for efficient cutting and stabbing.

I said something bad about the AFCK - now God will smite me.

I like the benchmade 730 series over the 710. Now they're making them all black model #732. If you can find a 730 CFHS reasonably priced, all the better. Matter of fact , think I'll start looking.

One more pic. ;)

This is one tough folder. Mine opens really smooth and no blade play at all. The lock is tested at 1000 lbs/inch. S30V blade, 3 3/4" long. Set up for tip up or down, left or right carry.

I'd like to plug my current EDC, the Spyderco Paramilitary. Tough as nails? Yes. Razor sharp 3.1" S30V blade? Yes. Insanely strong lock? Yes. Righty? Yes. Made in the USA? Yes. No Contest. Period.

Edited to add: Now that we have a Mini Millie, we need a Mini Chinook!

Jazzman, you may have just outlined my next EDC. Been looking for something with a beefier blade, than my BM 705, but under 3 1/2" long. I've always liked Spyderco's Military. Their Paramilitary just might be my ticket....

How about a Buck Mayo? Photo courtesy of buckknives.com.
