Now that tax season is upon us and refunds have started tricking out, do you find yourself splurging a lil more than normal?

Got me a ZT0450cf, Spyderco PM2 (s110v), and a ENzo Birk in cf with d2 blade on a trade this week. Its been a good week. I wish i could blow the whole tax refund on knives, but about to get a house, finally!

Yea I'd love to as well, however that responsibility thing...I was laid off for 2 months over the winter so first priority was catching up the bills. And paying the Damn property taxes.

I never understood the logic of blowing the tax refund. Call me a stick in the mud (believe me, people call me worse than that all the time) but it's called a REFUND for a reason. It was already your money. You simply overpaid the .gov and now the .gov in its oh so generous ways, is giving you back money that was already yours to begin with.

It's not a bonus. It's not EXTRA money. It's certainly not a chunk of change to treat any differently than the money you already have in your bank account. That said, if you feel like a splurge, go for it. ***

The long and the short of it is that for me, no I don't blow the refund on knives. In fact, I opt to use the refund as a credit toward my quarterly taxes, so I never even see my refund.

I do, however, find taxes to be stressful, and a new knife is always a nice diversion from stress. So i may by a new knife for that reason. But my refund will be irrelevant.

***All of this is just my opinion, and it's how I choose to spend my money and treat my resources. If you choose to treat a tax refund and allocate your funds differently than I do, that's totally cool. I hope nobody takes offense or feels like I'm trying to be preachy. Certainly not the intent.

In all honestly i hate spending money, and usually have to convince myself to make purchases, which is typically followed by regret immediately after checking out

Nothing to do with tax season but I did just order my first fixed blade (brand new TOPS Tom Brown T-3 Tracker) and a beautiful leather sheath from Patriot Leather. Exciting times 😊

Well in my case I got back more than I paid in, ...
How? EIC? If so, enjoy, but don't post about it, especially about how you're going to blow it. Keep in mind that if you get more back from the IRS than was withheld from you, that extra money comes out of others' pockets. Enjoy it or put it to good use, but please don't flaunt it in front of those who fund that windfall for you.

If youd read the whole post I never said I was blowing it all. Infact all the responsible family stuff was taking care of...emergency funds set aside first... I just made a few purchases for myself that I would normally tend not to do as I always put what my family wants first...which is why I give myself $100 a month knife budget side aside throughout the year.

I got that. But don't miss my point re ---"Enjoy it or put it to good use, but please don't flaunt it in front of those who fund that windfall for you." By all means, feel free to buy a knife with the windfall. But, if I were you, I'd just keep the source of the windfall to myself, particularly in a crowd with many who were forced to fund your windfall.

Nope. It's going in the bank. With the stock market being down, my 401k and other investments are .... well, you get the idea. Rainy day fund > want/need for another knife.

Lol no one funded my "windfall" I said I got back more...but we're taking maybe $100 more than everything I paid in.

I only asked bc on the fb knife groups guys are going crazy with it...Especially the ones who are $1000 + in the hole from knife raffles lol

MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT ---

(1) If your tax refund is greater than the entirety of the taxes withheld from you, someone is funding that extra money you are receiving. That someone is Joe Taxpayer (those of us who had taxes withheld and do not receive a refund or whose refund is less than what was withheld from their earnings). So, yes, someone did fund your windfall, and it matters not if that windfall is $1 or $500.

(2) It ain't a laughing matter. Like I posted earlier, enjoy it, but just don't flaunt it in front of the ones who paid for it.

If you are getting a refund then the government is taking too much to begin with and you are giving them an interest free loan. This has been a good year for me career wise in addition to finally getting my with holdings correct and it will be the first year that I end up owing a couple hundred, feels good actually. However, I agree with what was said above, everything in moderation. Set some aside for blowing and allocate the rest to your budget appropriately. That's what I'd do anyway, so take that for what's it's worth.
