I just want to get the word out there about this maker who is on the edge of blowing up right here on Bladeforums.

He's just getting started in the traditional knifemaking business, but he's already putting out some ridiculously high-quality stuff. I was lucky enough to snag one of his sodbusters in OD Canvas Micarta and O1 tool steel - and he sells on our own "for sale by maker" subforum!

Flush open and closed, dead centered, no wobble, no seams or gaps! Very clean overall, and it was a steal of a price (I don't think he's listed a knife for more than $110 so far)

This model doesn't have a half-stop, which just gives me an excuse to pick up another of his knives later on down the road that does :)

The guy is already knocking it out of the park, and I'm glad I was able to get one of his early models - there's nothing short of a mailing list and a hungry, clamoring market for his knives at present, and I can only imagine what kind of knives he'll be turning out in the future if his initial efforts are this amazing.

Pretty steep when you can get them all day long from established manufactures and BF sponsored dealers.

Aren't you just a consistently bright ray of sunshine... :P

I don't know what BF-sponsored dealers and established manufacturers are putting out handmade slipjoints in O1 for $110, but I would love to know!

Addendum: A GEC Bullnose in O1 and OD Micarta would run you the same, if not more (if they ever made it in that specific configuration). I hardly think the price is worthy of any criticism.

I got his green Mini Sodbuster for $55, I feel like i stole it for that price! The knife is very well designed and made, and i like it quite a bit. Mine is starting to take a light patina already from cutting up a few lemons for cocktails. I'll get more pics up soon. Certainly cannot complain at all about the price in the world of customs.

I'm glad I could brighten up your day with a ray of sunshine and that GEC Bull Nose you make reference of sold for much less.

Anyway, I chedked out his knives in the for sale section and it looks like he does a nice job.

Serious question. Is it your picture or does he not stamp his knives with an identifier - Tang Stamp, Blade Etch, etc.?

But thats a production knife, not a custom, so there's really no comparison price wise.
He did etch his name inside the back spring on these, although he is having a tang stamp made for future knives

I've looked at his knives, and was quite impressed. I emailed him about making a full sized soddie, but he's not taking orders or making anything larger than a Sodbuster Jr. at this time. Reading his posts in the knifemaker's forums he comes across as very respectful and eager to learn. Congratulations for those of you that have been able to snag one. They look fantastic. I can't wait to see where he goes from here.

Ed, from what I understand he's waiting on his stamp so that he can start marking the tangs. He currently etches the inside of the backspring with his mark. Somebody that has one of his knives in-hand can correct me if I'm wrong on this.

I'm talking about current market prices, not the original dealer price. Heck, I've seen 1095 bull noses in micarta go for $90 used. Original prices are irrelevant if the market will support the aftermarket price - the value of a knife is how much someone is willing to pay. If someone would pay $100 for a NIT OD O1 Bullnose, it stands to reason that a handmade knife with similar specifications would be worth more.

Regardless of price, his knives are just fantastic! I kinda want to get away from discussing prices, as I feel that cheapens the work he does - it's not just a good knife for the price, but just a good knife overall.

His makers mark is on the inside of the spring, and reads "Manny"

I snagged one of Manny's mini sodbusters. One of the best knife buys I've ever made.

I believe he has a tang stamp incoming. He's marking his work on the inside of the back spring at the moment.

I cannot see how someone can make a knife in person and sell it for $110. How anyone could think that as expensive? That's not even giving the maker room for a charge our rate for one hours labour.

A custom knife against a factory mass produced knife for the same price? Amazing.

Nice work by the looks. Thanks for posting. I say get in quick because the maker is sure to start raising his prices when producing work like this.

Edit.
My apologies. Just read your comment on price discussion.

How about posting some more pictures of your new knife. Maybe you could get a shot of his current mark - sounds interesting. Does he have plans for any other cover materials?

Congrats on the knife! I saw that and dithered too long, him being unknown to me. Glad to hear your feedback, and I'll keep my eyes open in the future!

Under the rules, with his membership level, can't Taximanny post his knives in this sub-forum - NOT TO SELL, just to show. Something like - "Here is a new knife I completed last night. What do you guys think." I'm pretty sure I've seen other makers do this.

As long as the knife is spoken for or going to a show it's OK. If it's for sale it belongs in the exchange not here.

Nice looking sodbuster, I've seen his work pop up from time to time and it always looks well made.

I'd much rather a vertical belt satin on something like a sodbuster though. A hand rub satin seems wasted and not conducive to the use you'd see of a working knife.
Does he do a sunken joint? The blade height from kick to tang seems short in height in comparison to the height of the handle itself.
Would love to see him gravitate into D2, all in all, great work by Manny

I've followed Manny in his threads on making his sodbusters better and getting advise from some of the more experienced. He certainly has talent. His current soddies may come with a g10 liner under the micarta...CU, how does the knife feel with use, sturdy?
And this is true custom piece....I had requested SS liners but he will need to get some new equipment, which is his goal. More power to him...so will be on the lookout.
Good to see the positive report so far.

I've seen a few, I believe, and thought try looked like a stellar deal!
