Taylor "The Master"--A Nice Surprise

About a week ago at a gun show, I picked up an old Taylor "The Master"--one of those balisongs that looks like two stainless steel pens, with a clip on each handle and a blade length of about 2". I paid $8, which seemed quite the deal given its apparently unflipped condition. But I'm not a collector--I use all that I touch and see. I immediately began flipping.

This thing is a real surprise! For starters, I find it to be very well balanced. The tapered-cylinder handle shape suits me very well and allows for smooth transitions. In addition, this bali is the quietest I've ever manipulated; if I keep my arcs wide, opening is almost silent.

This knife doesn't seem like it will take much use, so I'm treating it gently. But "The Master" holds some real lessons for today's custom maker.

WOW, $8 is a great deal. I know how you feel about a pen-bali feeling kinda weak and not wanting to put it through the "traditional" balisong manipulation orientation. I have a FHM pen bali (looks like a single pen when closed) but it's extremely weak and could easily be broken, bent or mangled.
