I've added and removed a TB from my cart about 20 times. I decided I'm worth it and, just once...I want the best! :D I know the options I want. I want choil and skull crusher...but I can't decide if I want a swedge or not. Please help me!!!

Is a swedge really going to weaken the tip at all? Do you guys think that the blade looks better with or without a swedge? Any real practical reason to go one over the other? I've looked at different pics, and in some I like it and others I prefer without...I'm kinda leaning towards getting it...just to have all the options. What say you?

If you think you will be batonning a lot, lose the swedge. If batoning isn't something you see yourself doing a whole lot of, get the swedge... they look nice.

Btw, your user name made me want apple sauce and I don't have any. Thanks a lot.:grumpy:
:p

From a person who despises clips, I prefer the swedge on this design. That opinion is based solely on pictures. I hope that I'll find out first hand someday.
The swedge on thicker stock seems to make sense for penetration and I don't believe it would weaken the point on these unless you are planning on using it as an entry tool.;)

I really prefer the swedge. I just think it looks better. I would not worry about it weakening the tip, especially on a Busse. I have never noticed or had an issue with the swedge weakening the tip. The only anti-swedge complaint I've heard is that it damages a baton when "batoning". I'm not sure why that really matters, so it's never been a concern to me.

I got the swedge and it looks great. the blade is thick and I don't think your are going to do damage to the tip. also if you are going for the full tac look with the crusher, why not go for the whole nine.

Swedges eat batons so if it is a camp knife I would go no swedge. But... if you don't plan to baton with it the swedge is sexy, especially if you are already leaning that way.

When you have the end of your baton fly off in the backswing and smack you in the face... after being chunked out by a swedge... it will matter.:D:thumbup:

looks great will improve penetration, will not effect batoning, You have alot of space left even with the swedge. in fact the big grove on the blade is perfect to strike with a piece of wood.

I'm with GregS on this one; *I* wouldn't want a swedge on a camp knife because I like to baton...I like it a lot :D

No swedge forr me... All my big Busse's get batoned at least once!! And a couple of them have been used more than once! (Right Garth???)

For a camp knife, I agree that you do not want a swedge, if this is a sheath knife that you are going to carry sometimes and air chop alot with, go for the swedge!

Or buy one of each!!

granted this is my first knife with a swedge, but i'm looking right at it and it doesn't look like it would change the act of batoning at all. it's not sharp enough to cut in or get stuck and any baton is going to get dented up right?

I'll try it and comment more.

also, all these options seem to have done a lot for really good discussion here and that good.

Well, a "thinner" spine with sharp edges will eat batons much faster than a full 1/4' spine. I slightly round the point of my knives designed to handle batonning (à la Sebenza, if you know what I mean). It helps a lot in my experience. YMMV.

I don't have on on mine, but I did order it on the 2nd one so I can have one of each. :D

Thanks for all the replies...I just needed some reassurance. I'm going with the swedge! Thanks guys. Gonna place my order right now.

If anyone can't hit that big middle dip in the blade just before the swedge, maybe you are drinkin and using a knife which is well Stupid!

Thanks RickJ...have you ever batonned a knife through a log?
Sure, at first, you can hit the middle dip (even if you're really stupid ), but when the knife is buried deep into the log, only the point sticks out...See this burrowed pic:

Nice wood! :D :D :D

but the swedge is not that sharp but if you like your knife without it then that is great, I just think it not that much of a show stopper!
