I took some time this weekend showing my nephew how to build a debris hut. I actually got by brother to help, which was a huge deal. The only problem is that we ran out of debris! I would have liked to add about twice as much. We almost went around the neighborhood to collect leaves from other houses, but my brother wasnt down with that. I think his wife would have got pissed too. But I guess for the learning process it worked pretty well.
It only took us about 2 hours to build, not too bad. Based on previous experience building debris shelters, I do not think it would have been good enough for nights down below 20F, but I think that it would have worked great in the 30-50F range.
The pictures do not show the complete building process. There were some steps left out. We added a couple layers of lattice work and added to the walls quite a bit before added the debris.
