Teak scales?

I have the opportunity to get a piece of teak from a friend, and I believe it is Burnese teak. Will this make good scales? He says it is very hard. It comes from some sort of furniture! Thanks!

It will work well for you. It is loaded with it's own natural oil so when you work it it will turn a light shade in color but will return to the original color. It's a very plain grained wood but it wioll will work well for knife handles. Yes I've used it in the past on hunters. Frank

Yup, I am finishing a knife now with Teak scales.
Wow! Is it hard.

But well worth it.

Here's a hidden tang Gentleman's Bowie made from some teak I got in Key West. Hard as heck and has a nice soft brown color.

Teak is beautiful, and smells wonderful too. Very stable. Hard, but not too heavy. If you quartersaw it its not so plain either.
