Teardrop Jacks

Here are some old Case Harness Jacks. The bottom one didn't have XX on the bolster when it was made; probably some home-made engraving to show off it was a Case, when it was closed. I imagine someone was proud of their nice knife! Another interesting punch, don't you think??

Here's a rare one. The Ralph Brown Co. ca. 1910. Probably made by Ulster.

That's some dandy knives that have been posted so far.:cool:

"Wound up" is right!:D

:D Waynorth gets a little, ahem, punchy over harness jacks. He's our resident expert on harness jacks. That is a punch. And that's all I have to say about that. ;) I'll leave it to Waynorth to tell you the wonderful ins and outs of harness jacks and the various punch blade designs and patents. It really does make for fascinating reading.

So, c'mon Charlie, give us some background on that punch. I sure want to hear it.

Great thread. Very informative, and it's a pleasure to view the fine knives represented.

Nice NYK, Mike! Great custom culpeppj, but can't read the tang! Whodunit??
Rivit, Arathol, thanks for reaching back in time.
Who doesn't love a teardrop??
The Ralph Brown nee Ulster punch is just that, Amos, a hole borer; especially good for leather. I think they advertised it as a wood gouge too, but you would have to use it carefully as twisting or prying are not the best activities for folders.
Here's another Teardrop stamped Wilbert! An easygoin' kind of guy!;)

That's a full blade on there; love that big "leaf" shape!

Here's a cheapy from Camillus, one of their secondary brands.
Crude, plastic handles, but sharp, tight and SNAPPY! Nice carbon steel, I'll put it up against any import crap!

Syracuse Knife Co.
Camillus is a suburb of Syracuse!

Teardrops with exotic handles!
Ebony, Mammoth, Stag, Pearl, Coral, Abalone, Buffalo horn!

Here's a real purty one. Shapely, nice duds, minty as they come!

Incredible collection Charlie!!! I like that Cut. Co., you don't see a wavy pattern in peachseed like that very often:thumbup:

Mike, that NYK is a beaut!

Some of those Schatt knives are stunning. I really like seeing those older ones also though. Some really nice stuff here in this thread. Thanks to everyone for sharing their pics. When I was young I remember thinking to myself when I found my first one of these teardrop jacks with the easy opener in a case at Larson's Knife shop up the road from my house. I thought for sure it was made just for me since I could actually open it. I remember thinking either that or the guy that designed this one was surely a nail biter like me! :D Anyway, I saved for like a month and half to buy that thing and when I finally got it I carried it for a long time. I gave it to a very good friend of mine before leaving home for the service.

This thread prompted me to inquire about that knife with him and sadly he confessed that he lost it many years ago. I had hoped to see it again because I had in my head all this time that it was a John Primble but wanted to confirm that. He couldn't tell me for sure but thought it was a Sheffield. Perhaps so. I just don't recall.

Anyway, thanks again.

STR, it sounds like you have a worthy successor to the knife you gave away so long ago! It's a nice looker!
Use it in good health!
