So I've been wanting one ever since the subject was brought up here and (dawsonbob?) came up with mock ups made in CAD or whatever they were.

I messaged several makers and only one guy, Alan Davis, stepped up and was will to give it a shot.

To make it a functional folder we had to do the blade in 3/16th instead of 1/4" thick steel. A 5" blade length was making it a little too big so he also shortened the blade length so it will have a 4 1/2" cutting edge. It's a liner lock, titanium liners and lock, it will have black micarta scales, a tip up clip, thumbstud, the liners will be anodized blue and the blade will have a stonewash finish.

Teaser pics! Blade hasn't been ground yet but he has the bearings in and it's a functional folder. Can't wait to see it when it's done!

How did you go abouts approaching them to make this? Did you use the CAD drawings as a basis, or did you have to kinda sketch up the design on paper first? More details please, this is going to be a very busy thread before long...

Ethan has said he is fine with one offs and other things based on his designs. Anything more than 1-2 though and you gotta talk to him.

Akthor please make sure Alan talks to KA-BAR/Ethan and gets their blessing! I want one of that guy's misery whip FBs and I don't want the KB death squad taking him out because of intellectual property issues before I get one :D

Per Ethan...

Hey Derek.....

One offs and two offs do not give me fits....I am always happy to see you guys modding stuff....It is how I got started........I guess this is a super mod.....Realistically speaking I own the handle design but, if you guys build blades that fit them and they do not in anyway pretend to be either Ka-Bar or BK&T products (which would bring down legal wrath beyond rational measure i.e. you ain't gonna like this) there is not a lot we could do.......I guess you have figured out that I am always open to new ideas and am open to working with people with good ones.....

I am not in any way (I am legaling here) encouraging this horrible, risky behavior but, I want an opportunity to try it out if it gets built.....

All Best....

This was from my thread on making Sheila (aka Brutus, aka DH Potato 4, aka giant hunk of metal, aka boat anchor)

So long as you do not in any way shape or form attempt to say that it is a Becker product, or put the Becker logo on it, or anything else of that nature, you are cool.

I think the mess would come if Kabar decided to make a folder like that and then it would be a cluster of well it was Ethan's design that led to it but Aland designed the folder, but it was off of Ethan's design etc etc etc. I'd love to see it. But like moose said before an American made folder of the sorts would A. Cost a bundle of money (insert Strider and sebenza prices here) B. open up companies to harpies complaining about design flaws no matter how awesome it is C. Tarnish the bk2s name since a folder is nothing more than a pre- broke fixed blade, and when they would be batoned through lawn mowers, they would (of course) not hold up as well and the noobs won't understand why and finally D. Since they don't hold up as well as the bk2 they will be perceived by the knife community as gimmicky (insert hest here).

Its a cool project and I like it but its better kept as a special project and not a production

Just to be clear my post was not to discourage or detract from how cool this folder is.
I like it alot..lol my concern was that ALOT of people might want one which would mean more than 1 or 2 being made potentially.
Its a great looking knife, I mean how could it not be? Its Modeled off a classic !

Derek, Didnt you sketch a seriously sexy recurve with a Becker handle ?
I seem to remember seeing at least a proto made in real steel.
Am I misremembering ? I feel like it was sexy

I have to admit I'm not sure I understand the appeal. Is this a BK2-styled folder? Or is it going to be just as thick and beefy?
