techno versus sage 2

I have both and I really like them both as well. I would say that the Sage is a better EDC knife and a better slicer but the Techno is more fun if that makes sense. If I could only have one, I would probably take the Techno, but I absolutely love my Sage. The Sage is thinner, longer, and has better EDC blade, all while weighing the same as the Techno. With that being said, the Techno has a better steel(imho), and is small but carries larger. There's just something about the Techno's style that draws me to it.

I only have the Sage 2 which is a great knife for both town and country. I have however been eyeing both Slysz designs lately and will be following this thread with interest.

Techno hands down, it's a lot of fun! I don't think there's a knife task that this little guy can't do and the XHP blade just holds edge forever. Sage 2 however there are lots of options in that size range.

Both excellent knives, BUT....my vote goes to the techno for the blade to handle ratio. The edge eating choils kill the sage series for me.

Sage 2 all day long for ergonomics and overall usefulness. The Techno is a cool little knife but it's hard for me to find a comfortable grip. Techno for show....Sage 2 for go.

No doubt Sage 2 is a good working knife but so is stretch, native, Manix, domino, etc... Put them together and you have ONE type of really good knives, the look and ergo are very similar.

Techno on the other hand is... a beast! Hold it with your thumb extended and on top of the blade's spine and your hand and knife becomes one, I sometimes choke up by placing my middle finger in the scale cutout and index finger just behind the heel of the blade and that gives me even better control for delicate stuff like feathering wood see through thin

Not a huge fan of wrong handed knives, even less of a fan of the unfinished look of a framelock. Still, if I had to choose between the two, the Sage 2 would win, hands down. Spyderhole is fully accessible from both sides, so it's the least hostile to left handed users, and it has a longer blade that's not absurdly thick and a 50/50 choil to protect my hand.

There's a reason for that. :)

I know a lot of folks love the Techno and even go so far as to say they like the ergonomics. I absolutely believe you when you say you like the ergonomics and am not out to try to tell you that you shouldn't. Those ergos though will never appeal to as broad of a market as the ergos of the knives you mentioned. I could certainly use the Techno to do all my normal tasks but I would never feel that it came anywhere close to becoming one with my hand. There are over 10 billion hands in this world though and I've only got two of them, so take that for what it's worth. :)

I have a Techno and really like it. It is a very sturdy knife. I have no problems with how it feels or handles. I have no problem getting a secure grip on it or operating it, both opening and releasing lock. Having said that, if you want a knife primarily for slicing cuts, the Sage is much better simply because it is a thinner blade. I have a Sage, but I don't carry it nearly as much as my Chaparral, which is a very slim blade and overall knife.
I should add, those are all "office" EDCs.
My chore knives are a Military and a Tuff or GB.

My response will be the exact opposite of this one. ;)
Aside from, yes, they are both great knives.

Get both. Use both. Both are popular models and hold their resale value nearly as well as they function as knives. :D

I couldn't agree more! If everyone liked the same thing how boring would that be? Thank goodness for options! [emoji6]

Oh boy, I own and love them both. The Techno is such a compact beast that you could handle most any task with it. I still just cannot get over how great the Sage 2 feels in my hands. I can't say which one is a better knife, I just usually grab for the Sage most days though.

My thoughts exactly. If I do pick up a Techno the Sage 2 isn't going anywhere. I'm out of town for the week and brought a CF Chaparral, SB Caly 3.5, and the Sage. I've only carried the Sage. Not as slicey as the other two, but for me it's the fit. The same feel that I think a lot of fans of the Stretch talk about. I do love that Chap however, because in hand it echoes the Sage.

Techno, no doubt!

No doubt about it! I'm really glad the Spyderco portfolio is as deep and as expansive as it is. The spectrum is broad and there is much to enjoy. Shall we bring the Burch Chubby and Mantras into the mix of this mid size Ti framelock discussion? ;)
