Techno vs. Inkosi

When discussing quality between these knives at varying price points, it really relates to the Law of Diminished Returns. I don't think anyone can say that an Inkosi is [roughly] twice the quality for [roughly] twice the price of a Techno. If everyone here agreed that the Techno is 90% of the quality of an Inkosi, that would be a reasonable assertion. But you will always pay (a lot) for that "extra" 5 or 10% in quality. And that's what we see here. No custom knife will be twice the quality of a CRK, but many will cost double what a CRK costs. The fact that $180 will buy you a knife that's almost as good as any knife you can buy, says a lot.

Well put. I think knives demonstrate the law of diminishing returns better than most things. It's a sad, sad reality but you can really get an excellent knife to do all you need a knife to do for right around $100. Beyond that the slope of progress gets pretty steep!:)

In my mind refinements, after a certain point, can become so minute that they are essentially pointless. The Inkosi really only has two things of value in relation to the Techno: an inherently higher resale value; and an extremely generous warranty that will keep the knife in new condition in perpetuity. Without those things, the refinements in the Inkosi design are too small to matter to me.

For what it's worth, I am not anti-high dollar knives. Heck, I could buy an Inkosi if I come across a few extra dollars, and I would certainly buy either a3" or 3.5" Hinderer just because I think they are cool, not because I think they are substantially better than ZT Hinderer designs.

And that's really all that matters.

However, if you handle both knives side by side, sometimes those almost intangible refinements can justify the difference in price. I'm not talking specifically about the Inkosi and Techno, but there's a reason many of us regularly buy $400+ knives. We didn't start out buying $400 knives. But our quests for something just a "little bit" better gets us spending more and more.
