Hey just wondering if anyone has one of those tekna xtra edge keyring knives... Lookin into gettin one, but want info. thanks

I had one of those for years and I dont know why I kept carrying it.....it had a horrible edge and it really makes me wonder if it was ever heat treated in the first place.

Would'a been neat if it was made from real steel.

It is made from real steel -- it says 425! I think the current run may be China cheapies from someone buying out the original name. The grind looks different from what I remember.

That was the first "neat little knife" I ever just threw away. It wasn't even a good pry bar. (I already had a PocketWrench.) But I kept the ring it came on, for keys.

I've got one that I've carried since I bought it in 1988. Carried it on my keyring until last year, when I replaced it with a Spyderco Dragonfly.

The Tekna then went on my badge lanyard at work, just in case I ever have to cut something, and don't want to use a real knife.

I agree with the holding an edge comment. I quit trying to sharpen mine like a knife. I gets dull, I just take a file to it. Works fine like that.

Because the handle is so damn short, it really isn't suited to much more than opening boxes & opening envelopes because you can't get a real good grip on it.

All-in-all, it hasn't been a bad knife for what I paid for it. It just isn't all that useful because of the handle size.

**edit typo**

I love them. Carried my first one for about ten years, using it frequently, wondering when the little sheath would wear out and I'd lose it. As I say, after about ten years, I did lose it. Bought another, a real Tekna (new-old stock) but the newer ones I see for sale, in different colors, look different. Knock offs? Here they are in this link:

I'm also a fan of the double edged Tekna dive knife. Was sold in both a composition dive sheath and more rarely, in a leather boot sheath. Additionally, many dive gear companies integrated a sheath for this handy little knife into bouyancy compensators, regulators, gauges, ect. I saw more real dive masters carrying that knife than any other.

i got one of these in about 1990 & carried it on keyring for a few years, didn't get used a lot but it was handy to have when needed, especially in the days before i carried a folder everyday, then the cover lost the tabs that lock in & it wasn't as secure so it went in a drawer... recently got a couple more & discovered they make a good scraper for ferrocerium rod, spine is squared nicely... blade also worked well to make fatwood feathers & shavings

Sparky has incredible necromancy powers. When he revives a thread, people actually post useful and relevant information.

aw shucks guys, c'mon!
thanks for noticing, but the necromancy isn't intentional yo..
it's usually a case of searching for info online & then sure enuf, a thread on bladeforums shows up, sometimes they happen to be these oldies & i just gotta add my two cents...
