Tell me about Moras and Opinels

Actually the Queens are only about 2-3 times as much in price, and I thinned the edge in about 20 min on my edgepro. The nice thing about the D2 is that it keeps a really good edge for a long, long time.

I'm not disagreeing that they are a good value for $10, they are. And the wide bevel makes them easy to sharpen, just offering alternatives.

where are you getting your prices? I did a cursory search on a reputable dealer's site, and found only two Queen knives out of dozens in the $50 range. the rest were $60 and well above.

Compared to a $9 Opinel, so let's round to $10, and yup that's 5-6x more expensive. Unless you are just finding screaming deals.

I hear a lot of talk about these 2 brands on here.... did a google search and found some for sale. Can someone tell me what your draw is to these brands? Price, function, looks..... Just looking to be educated a bit.

Price value and function. Inexpensive and durable little buggers. I like the carbon stuff. Here's a bunch I bought a while a back... durned if I can find that 511. It's around here somewhere.

where are you guys getting your opinel #8's for less than $10? i'm finding them for more like $20.

The only thing to add is that Opinels are a lot of fun to modify into something uniquely your own. This is a #12 that I cut down into a nice utility knife. Once I get home it goes in my pocket and I use it for everything, it's great.

This is another #12. I've since re-worked the tip to be a little less blunt and better polished but I don't have a newer pic yet:

I'm not sure if I should answer publically with forum rules, but my 4180's were in the $35 range, and most of my canoes, stockmans, congresses, etc., some were $50 - $70, but the cheaper ones in the $20 - $30 range.

I'm seeing the Queen Country Cousin sodbusters in D2 listed for $24 at a dealer that's among the most reputable anywhere.

That's about the same price as Case charges for their sodbuster knives.

Opinel #8, first place I looked, $12. Second place, $11.

It pays to shop around. ;)

The first place I checked not only lists the #8 at $11.95 but they claim that the retail price is $12.95, so it's not like they are claiming to offer it at a super cheap price. A quick google search using "opinel knife" without the quotes managed to find a #8 for $9.97

Love Opinels. And for getting them at a good price, well I work in France regularly. So for me the question is how to get Queens at twice the price of opinels. I would be interested. My D2 queens sodbuster is not a bad knife:)
