The www.paypal.com website is pretty vague.

What exactly do they mean by "anyone with an email address can accept money"?

I'm assuming that the buyer uses his/her credit card to make the purchase. I get an email telling me "you've got money", but now what?

What do I have to do once I receive the email?

Do I get some type of printable check or money order or what?

Must I use a credit card or bank account to receive the funds?

Walk me through the process if you wouldn't mind, I'm a paypal newbie.

Thanks!

Josh

When you log into PayPal, click on the withdrawn button. There will be a few choices. One is to have the funds deposited in your Bank Account, thats free. One is for virtual credit card. That will give you a mastercard number where you can use it online to purchase goods like a credit card and the funds will come out of your paypal account. That too, is free. There is also an option for them to mail you a check. This service costs you $1.50. You can also request a free debit card from paypal and you can take funds out at the ATM or use it as a credit card as well. Meet their critera and you get a 1.5% cash back instantly when using the debit card as a credit card.

(Edited to add) You can also use your PayPal cash to pay bills for free using there Billpay.

They simply mean that even if a "seller" doesen't already have a PayPal account,,that they will be walked through the process once someone(buyer) PayPals them money. PayPal is excellent. It's basically the only way I'll purchase a knife online. Simple to use and fast. As with anything else, understanding the details will keep you safe. Happy to answer any other questions you might have.

Just be ceartin you know what is what. For example, I have had a paypal account for a couple of years, but could not take credit cards. I wanted to be able to accept credit card payments, so I upgraded my account, thinking that they would charge an extra 3% on credit card purchases. Turns out they now charge 3% on ALL transactions, credit card or not. Just be sure to read and UNDERSTAND everything before you sign up and all should be well:)

I've had over 100 transactions using Paypal without a problem. I'll bet I could find more anti-Ford sites than anti-paypal sites, but people buy them anyway....still don't know why. :D

I will have to agree with you on PAYPAL, I have had almost 100 transactions myself without incident. I can't however agree with you on FORDS, I love my F-150 :D

No problems with PayPal here, either. As a buyer, it's a great service. As a seller, it works well too - but then again, I usually sell to BFC members which, as we all know, tend to represent the more honorable segment of the Internet population :)

Yeah it’s a damn shame. I got screwed twice by people on PayPal with damage running at about $600 or so. But I still use there service on a daily basis. They have a way to protect you. I seen dollar signs and ignored the "Unconfirmed" addresses and I got stung.:(

But it’s just SO damn convenient

Used paypal for years for various purchases and sales on ebay, gunbroker, auctionarms, and several message boards. Never had any trouble.

I've had over 100 paypal transactions without any problems. Paypal makes international transacations a breeze. I use them without hesitation.

Thanks for all the info guys, I really appreciate it.

Still undecided and will not be utilizing their services anytime soon.

I don't like anyone but ME having access to my bank account, and the ONLY reason I was considering it was because a newbie wanted to buy my small Sebenza but appearantly he has a problem with follow-through.

Ahh well.

We have propably done a good thousand transations on paypal with no problem(I am knocking on wood) our only complaint is the day ebay bought them, is the day they became less desireable from a biz standpoint. paul

I have had good success with paypal. But (and that is a big But), you must read their terms and conditions before you move forward. You must use confirmed shipping addresses or you will open yourself up to potential risk. I would only do business with confirmed members.

Keep in mind, they are looking out for themselves. Also, if you go beyond a private membership (join as a premium member or business memeber), you open yourself up to fees !!!! And they add up. From what I see, the fees for a seller are really as much as or higher then a credit card merchant account. But, if you are a private member, you can not receive payments via credit card. If you receive one, you will be coaxed into changing your account status. Once you take the step, you can't go back unless you contact customer service and formally request to change your status back to private. You can only do that once though.

If you are going to use paypal, be savvy, make sure you know what you are doing. If you don't, read up first. But again, as a private member, it seems to work.
