Hey guys, thinking of getting my first chopper, other then a ka-bar kukri I got a few years back. I Like machetes and axes but these beefy beasts seem like the best of both worlds.
Specifically I would like to know if the RD9 or RD7 is the better choice, and how long is the waiting list, if any.

Just sent Justin an e-mail, asking about an uncoated, un handled, recurve blade RD9. I may just get an orange micarta handle on it, I'm a sucker for orange.
Hopefully there is no wait!

You can not go wrong with a Ranger knife!!! I love my RD 4 & 6!! I want to get another one.

Indeed just got a RD6 last week. A tough blade at an affordable price. Im gonna be getting a Ranger little bird pretty soon.

Hey GUys..

Liam..

Ya can't go wrong...

I would go for a Rd-7. I'm someone who thinks if you need anything bigger you should bring an axe.

yea for sure. Everything i've heard about the RD series has been great. The only exception is i've heard some complaints about the sheath design (blades falling out of the sheath. Ouch!

The only problem i had with my sheath is the Kydex insert keeps poping out. If that happens just use some silicone to glue it back in let it dry for a day tho.

I have just returned from a trip to Africa where I used a RD9 EXTENSIVELY. I will be posting a full report here soon. The knife was phenominal and Justin at Ranger Knives is a great guy to deal with.

Thanks Moodino, I really like that golok design.
I will probably order that if I dont get a regular one,
now I'm thinking of a straight edge spear point.
Anyone have any thoughts on that recurve blade?

Just got in an RD9 the other day. 7 days from order to my hands. Satin finish, black micarta scales and had Justin sharpen the swedge. This is one big piece of hardware! I love it. Gonna order a RD4 to match in the future.

dingobubba, do you have any pics? i would love to see that.

i'm really thinking about getting an RD7 or RD9 as well. i actually emailed Justin today for some info.

sorry for the semi-hijack, Liam. :o

Sorry...no pics yet, but I'll work on it. I'm not too savy with this puter stuff. It is purtty though!

No worries, tka1, the more pics the better!
I ended up ordering the same one diceman has, a recurve with satin finish,
and orange micarta scales. If anyone hasn't seen it yet diceman has a lot of pics of the RD9 vs. a dogfather in the test ing review forum.
Justin is a great guy to deal with and his prices are great.
