Tell me about Spyderco.

I truly believe that each company out there has some very good models out, but because of many reasons I tend to stick with Spyderco and will continue to do so for many years to come.

First let me say if you value your money stay away from Spyderco. You can not just have one :p I probably have about 30-45 spydies could be more, but certainly not less.

IMO It is the most diverse production knife company in the world and also the maker of the best sharpener in the business.

1) Sal is a class act all the way and I'm proud to own knives made by him.
2) The most innovative designs and collaborations out there
3) Only company out there that really listens to it's customers
4) Fantastic customer service and warranty. Genuinely very helpful in providing information and fixing the problem.
5) Better steels, more variations, more upcoming designs than any other company.
6) Something for everyone & it's very affordable. Tenacious, Byrds, Delica, Endura and many others.
You name the category and it seems like Spyderco at one time or another has filled it or is about to fill it.

If I had to stick with one production company only it would be Spyderco hands down.

take care

P.S Spyderco doesn't send clips for free, but they only charge $5 bucks for em:thumbup:

I spent some time looking around for Spyderco with looks I really liked, because the Spyderhole just didn't appeal to me as an opening system. Until I tried it. This is easily my favorite knife I own.

I had a couple SAKs that rarely left my desk before checking out a Delica 4. I thought the hole definitely looked strange, but from the first time I opened one, I knew they were onto something... my D4 now rides (clipless) in my pocket every day!! Since then, I've checked out a few other brands, but none even came close to being as natural or effortless to open. Axis locks ARE easy to open (and close), but I haven't found any that felt like they locked up solidly. I haven't had any reason to deal with customer service so far.

I actually don't like the Spyderhole, but that's just personal preference. Otherwise, they are great knives, and they do seem to be willing to talk to their customers (their founder [Sal Glasser?] is a member here) That's certainly a step up from other knife companies.

Hands down, Spyderco makes some of the best knives out there. I've been carrying a Spyderco knife of one kind or another since 1991. So, that makes me a fan, but I sure as hell ain't no "boy". I've got other knives - Benchmade and Cold Steel - but I always found something "lacking" in them.

You want a tough, dependable knife? Get a Spyderco.

Spyderco is my personal favorite knife company for production folders overall. No need to go too deep into the why's as they've been pretty much touched on.

I personally don't like knives that have blades that are about the same length as the handles. I don't like those kind of blade to handle ratios. The Strech I & IIs have that ratio, so they don't appeal to me. I've read plenty of other posts that like them for the very reason I don't like them. I like the materials used and quality on the Strech II. ZDP isn't difficult to keep sharp if you touch it up after regular use. You'll only have issues if you let it get dull and then try to sharpen it with anything other than diamond stones or belts.

I see you're in Livermore. There's a store in SF in Pier 39 (We Be Knives) that I'm pretty sure has the model for you to hold. You might want to check it out there.

I have a Salt, Delica, and a Rescue.

Spyderco can get some big blades in small and light frames; has anybody else noticed that?

Hey! I just visited We Be Knives about a month ago. Good selection, okay prices.

I thought they had the Stretch II over there. It might have already been taken. In regards to the prices, a lot of the production knives are offered at MSRP. If you ask if they can compete with online prices, they've brought the prices down to about 75% of MSRP for me in the past, which is still just too high for me to justify.

The guys over there are really cool and when I did mention online competitors, I made sure to be respectful enough to mention prices when no one else could hear me. When you do go back to SF, make sure to stop by Tad Gear. Those guys over there are cool. It's nice to have a local place where there's a bunch of guys who know as much as we do about knives on these forums.

I'd love to say something bad about Spyderco just because I'm a PITA and this is starting to sound like some kind of demented love fest......

......but I can't.

They make one helluva knife.....and there's one to suit every taste and need.

I've been rotating carrying 2 Delica's every day for close to 15 years now. They're still going strong and I think I'd break down and cry if I ever lost either of them. That's saying a lot for a $50 knife!

The only bad thing that I have to say is that clips do cost $12 plus shipping. Kershaw sends them free and so does Buck. That is the price for a Salt clip, maybe less for the non TI clips.

Some of the more extraordinary designs may be a bit hopeful but I've never seen a badly executed one. I couldn't ask for more from a factory produced knife in terms of fit and finish with those I own or have owned.

I mailed a simple inquiry as to how much a replacement screw would cost me for the clip on my Police model. I was told if I'd included my address it'd already be on its way to me. I mailed it. Three days later a little bag of four of them turned up, gratis. That's USA to UK.
