Tell me about the Chosera stones, in general or with the EdgePro

G2,
All would be good, but Mark advised that the Shapton glass would excell with some of the newer "super steels". My call centered around S90V with its high vanadium content. I'm in on the upcoming Gunhammer limited edition Bladeforum knife that Darrel Ralph is making for us with a goal of heat treating for as high as HRC as is possible/practical to really get the best out of our steel selection. There is some pretty good info on the web to support his view on the Shapton glass opinion.
Best...

Well I just tried to put my order through, to see if there was an option for money orders and then I was able to see that they do accept Amex cards, so thanks all, just ordered the Shapton glass stones, 220, 320 and 500 grits, they were out of the 1000 and up, but these will help to see how they work, also got the springy thing and the collar dealy ordered as well.

Edited to add, that sounds like it'll be quite a knife when it's all said and done Ray, cool ;)

G2,
Glad that worked out for you. Hope you will give us your opinion of the Shapton glass after you have tried it. Still not a lot of folks using it yet I think.

You're going to be VERY impressed with the Shaptons. They make the stock stones feel like sharpening on the sidewalk.

Ok guys, I'm in love, with these stones, gotta get the 1k though, but they really put an edge on a knife QUICKLY and cleanly, they don't soak up much if any water and still clean off easily, what's not to like??

I also got the spring thingy, to replace the tubing, makes it a lot easier to change stones now, never did like having to keep screwing and unscrewing that knob and have it come loose while in use was a nuisance too, but the spring works well, you could probably find a spring to work, but for the price and since I was ordering, I just picked that up too, the collar thing, it's a bit tight on there, the Shapton's are the same thickness so I didn't have to move it, but I can see how that could help.

Thanks for the tips guys and I do give these stones a big thumbs up!!!

edited cuz I just had to add, while I was pretty impressed with the EdgePro system, these new stones really are a step above, when I ordered them, a bit of money which I wasn't sure was going to be THAT much overall better, but, I just sharpened up two folders and wow, just plain WOW, very nice, I strop on leather afterwards as I don't have the 1k stone...YET, and didn't want to use the regular ones now...if you guys/gals are thinking about getting them, I'd say go for it !

Thanks Gary, you've pushed me over the edge as well. I've been wanting these for a long time, will give them a try!

You're welcome Ray and Sodak...haha, pushed you over the EDGE, I get it, and yes, you'll not be sorry, I just wish they had at least the 1k stones or 2k in stock soon !
