I love the look of the Magnum Camp, can anyone tell me what the strengths of this knife are. What tasks do you find yourself using them for the most ?

Thanks for askin the question. I'd like to know the same. Specifically, what is the thickness of the blade ? What is the angle grind of the edge ?

Wow, hey Pit, hows ya' been? I haven't been over to WSS in a while, been a little busy here. :D

Great knife, designed by Jerry Fisk and Ethan. Perfect balance, it floats in the hand. Tremendous cutter, and is the thinnest blade in the BKT lineup. Full swedge to offset the length of the blade. Deemed as a kitchen knife, and given Jerry's background, its a helluva meat knife. It can be roughed up a bit, but you have to remember the delicate edge of the full flat grind. The choil lets you get a better grip for fine detail work. Not much of a chopper, as its not blade heavy, you find yourself expending alot of energy to get the job done.

As alway, Pit, if you are interested in trying one, let me know, I have one I'll send you to put through the paces. You gotta return it, though, :D, its my best kitchen knife. :D

Good to see you, its been a while.

The Magnum Camp is beautiful and perfect for its job which is slicing, dicing and stabbinating. If you're on KP, you should be reaching for the Magnum Camp. The beauty I found is that yeah, you can go for the 11 or 14 OR you can just choke up on the Magnum Camp and never put your knife down! That way when a Samsquatch rolls into camp you can raise your steel and run that hoser off without spilling the beer.

Also, the tip is at the top of the spine so that blade stabs like a little lightsaber...

Good question, I posted pretty much the same thing in a thread earlier today. The knife has such amazing lines... just looking for an excuse to get one. I'm surprised you're considering one of these, pitdog, seeing as how you've go so many knives that Mark made (I'm getting my first one soon).

It's quite light compared to other large Beckers and the blade itself was larger than I expected from pics. I was mediocre on it for a while but warmed up to it. To me its charm lies in its versatility. Light to medium duty applications.

Pitdog:
8" upswept blade is surprisingly light in hand.
Cimeter shape lends well to carving large roasts into thin slices.
the unsharpened full length swedge lightens and balances the blade without sacrificing strength.
As a light blade you have to use a different technique (more follow through - focus beyond the target) for chopping than a heavier & more blade forward balanced knife, but it's still a good chopper and can handle some batonning if need be. (it's still a Becker, just a pointy one)
The point will drill, but again it takes a different technique to make a hearth and anchor block for a bowdrill set -- but it'll do the job.
due to the light weight it's pretty easy to control when making fuzz sticks, shavings, and dust scrapings.

will it do everything a large bush knife needs to do? yes.
will it do it the same way as a heavier chopper? no.
Is it worth adding to your collection -- PM/email me your contact info and I'll loan you mine for a couple of months to find out.

it's been reviewed here, perhaps extensively, and had a pass-around. big thumbs up. find and read. or just buy...

The Mini or "Tweener" version looks very promising too. What's the length going to be on that pray tell?

I searched before i posted. Can't find anything on the thickness of the blade or the angle grind of a stock blade. Is that so hard to post ? Really ?

Thank you kind sir. I appreciate it. OOpps, i searched online----not the blade database. Sorry, forgot all about that ! I guess i was temporarily  Thanks again.

No prob. Pretty much any question you can think of about specs can be found in there.

certainly about production models :)

we don't like to speculate on prototypes until they are official... cuz then you get rules lawyers whining about it ;>

the section on the magnum camp should esp be uptodate, what with 3 generations of "camparisons" and all :)

Ok, now you are just gloating about how thorough you are. Lol. Glad you are!

lol. Well I can definitely learn some attention to detail from you, and I envy your collection. Give me a few years and maybe I'll have half of what you do. I've only got a few more until I have the whole current lineup. Unfortunately mail takes forever getting here!

Wow lot's of great advice here !

Thanks to the generous offers of a Mag camp loan though I will pass for now.
I really do like the look of this knife and thnk it would be a great addition to my camping gear.

Now I've seen what a great friendly bunch you all are I might have to drop by more often !:)

You're always welcome here, Pit. Always. You should get in on some of the fun. I think some of the 'Heads are prepping a PNW get together.
