When were these offered? Will my 1973 Ranger 112 with its square handle fit in one of these sheaths? Any other user comments?

Thanks!

I can't give you dates right at the moment, but I believe they were made in the '80's. They were made for several different sizes of Bucks, so it will depend on which one you have whether or not it will fit a 112.

I have several of them and in my opinion, the leather is way too heavy (thick) for that size sheath and they are very bulky on your belt.

Thanks. I would get the sheath that is marked for the 112. I do want to make sure that the old square handle will fit though.

I don't seem to have one (or can't find one) for the 112. I can tell you that both the old squared off 110 and the radiused ones fit just fine in this sheath. Both are very tight, but that's probably because the sheath is brand new. I'd be willing to bet that any 112 (with the possible exception of one with thick stag scales) will work just fine in the 112 sheath.

They were new in the 1982 catalog, but I don't know how long they were produced. If you can live with the bulkiness, they are a great looking sheath.

I Have both the 110 and the 112 custom sheaths. The older knives fit in them just fine, though as was mentioned, a little snug. The leather is thicker and therefore bulkier as was also mentioned. There was also a custom sheath of the same design made for the 119. Being a sheath knife, it didn't seem as awkward when I wore that combination.

Agreed, the one for the 119 being quite a bit larger than the ones for the folders tolerate the extra thick leather much better.

Thanks for the photos! That sheath looks great with the knife in it. I went ahead and purchased one off of eBay. $29.00 shipped. Brand new, still in packaging. I'm not too concerned about the thickness and bulk. The 110 and 112 are heavy knives, so a quality, heavy sheath seems appropriate.

I knew I had one somewhere. Here it is with an old 112 in it. To me, the leather just overwhelms the knife, but if you like it, that's what counts!

I have one in the 110 size, though I can't imagine using it for EDC. It's huge. I think of it as something that would be appropriate for horseback riding, sorta goes along with horse's tack. It sits in a box. Haven't used it yet, but it looks nice.

Hey Dave and Wolf, if you don't want those sheaths, I will try and find a good home for them. ;) :D :D :D HL

Thanks for the photos, but I disagree with you. I still think the knife looks in proportion with the sheath. Great looking set!

Funny you should mention horseback riding because that's exactly what I plan to use it for. :)

Well, I hope for your sake that when you get it you'll like it.

It may appear in proportion in the pictures, but I can assure you that it is very bulky when on your belt. A Buddy of mine tried one on for size and he always wears his shirts hanging out. Unlike the standard sheath, this one made a very noticeable "lump" under his shirt. I doubt that the super thick and stiff leather that forms the belt loop will ever relax enough to allow the sheath to fit close.

Do you think it would help with the bulk and stiffness if the whole sheath was wet formed to the knife and to your belt and body?

Man those are nice, I want one no two one for my 112 and one for my 110. Im a sucker for good leather sheaths.

That's a possibility and something I've never tried with one. The issue I see with that is, how small a radius could be achieved when bending leather that thick? Here's a couple more sheaths with similar designs that show their solutions. The basket weave model used thinner leather where it has to bend to form the loop, then added another layer below the bend. That sheath fits close to the body as it comes. The second smaller sheath just used thinner leather to start with. Good luck with the sheath and if you do the wet forming, post some pictures of how it comes out.

Thanks again for the excellent photos! I do see what you mean by the size of the Buck sheath compared to others. I'm familiar with that small sheath offered by Moore Maker and Big Bend Saddlery. I think one thing that also attracts me to the Buck sheath is the fact that it's a Buck sheath. I like keeping it all in the family. ;)

Sheath arrived yesterday. When I opened the packaging, the smell alone was worth the money. :D But seriously, it's a beauty and my old Ranger fits perfectly with just the right amount of snuggness - if that's a word.

Thanks again for everyone's comments and photos. It was really helpful.
