I’ve read about this Crab Shack and seen there work but … Who are they? Where are they? Why do they not take orders?
Let me No what you know about this Crab shack,
I’ve bought a lot of Custom Shop blades but none of them says Crab Shack, in fact they all say Custom Shop ….?

Let’s take a poll.. and hear from the shop…

I always thought it would re-open. I was going to get dessert Iron wood handles on a few knives. But now I think it would take to long to get to everyone’s specific needs.

I'd love it to be reopened, but I've given up on it.
I've wanted one or two CS shop blades to be done ,going on probably ten years now but it seems like it may never happen so I went to some custom makers with me my ideas.
I have more Busse's than I'll ever need so it's not the end of the World to me anymore but maybe some day 🤞.

I voted “open,” but can imagine many common sense (business) reasons why it’s not.

Even if it’s not in the cards for the custom shop to be opened back up to any porker wanting mods/fresh custom… it’d be awesome if there were say five? or ten? custom shop “admittance tickets” given out via lottery chance, riddle, email race, etc…. once or twice a year?… quarterly?

Giving us a glimmer of hope, satisfying someone’s fantasy, and keeping the HOG spirit burning could go a long way.

It’d be fun, make people happy, and wouldn’t overly burden normal operation.

Sure. Or to avoid hoarding of tickets, the CS could open for a specific number of mod orders, and once that number of orders had been received then close books until they hit a slowdown, then do it again. Could be a once-in-a-while thing—intermittent and unannounced—just a chance out there as you say for a glimmer of hope, maybe fulfill someone’s fantasy, etc.
 
I think awarding an “admittance ticket” at a certain blip in time would create a lot of frustration. Almost all of the people surfing this forum, would inevitably go take a leak/get a beer/read a post & would come back majorly deflated that they missed it. Maybe even resentful when the subsequent show-off pics are revealed.

To avoid potential resentfulness & minimize frustration…

Building the anticipation with some sort of announcement would get everybody buzzed up, involved & eventually rooting for the winner(s)…like how “name the (Forefather Bowie) knife” recently went… or, “what direction am I facing?”

What if when Jerry releases something there was a "Custom Shop" option? For extra cash and an extended wait time?
Custom Shop option could include handles, sharpened Swedge, Flying (serrations), finish, etc.

I would love a DSF rerelease and would pay a little extra for sharpened Swedge or maybe even the Flying treatment 🤘 An extra 4-6 weeks? No problem 😉

Randall knives has a menu… but you have to wait like five+ years. And, you can only order like three? things on the menu.

Jerry is like the spec ops guy of knife biz… get in… get out… next target.

If everybody can order custom…I suspect we’d be at Randall wait times overnight.

To keep up “standard pace,” he’d probably have to hire more people to run 24/7… a headache. I wouldn’t be surprised if he and his employees have found a sweet spot in his work / life balance & not too jazzed about pumping things up two notches.

But, I’m all for him sprinkling a little Custom Shop bacon grease on us here & there!… via special admittance to the Crab Shack…. however it can be worked out. C’mon Jerry… (please) sprinkle the magic bacon grease!!!

Hmmmm, I agree with this, but it's only available for as long as the blade is available (3 days or so) and Jerry does control the menu. 🤔🤔🤔

We could be getting somewhere (closer).

Keep the ideas coming. The more reasonable and palatable we can make it… the more likely it could come to fruition.
 
Maybe when there’s a new knife… there could be a regular offering.. and a special offering. Kind of like how there was with the FMV6.. two separate listings on the website.

The special offering could have a menu… like Danny the Bull Sheath, blade finish, handle choice… there’d just be more options.

And there could just be a limited number available… 5… 10… 15?…

Boy that’d bring out trough frenzy. Maybe too crazy… even at one per customer. They’d disappear in a split second… kind of crappy. This is where I thought the game/fun could be brought to the forum.

This’d involve:
- The webmaster? adding more dropdown field options for listings.
- Jerry approving which menu items could be added for a particular knife.
- anything else?

He has a cost basis for everything:
- flying serrations
- hand-smoothed scales
- detailed flats
- etc.

This way, he wouldn’t get random requests for some long gone blank/thickness… and could pre-ordain what he was willing to do… keeping time under control.

It would kinda suck though… if you always wanted and have been dying for a certain thing (like spine serrations?/sharp swedge?) and it wasn’t on the menu.

Golden Ticket

Jerry could offer Grab Bags, one of which contains a Golden Ticket that allows the Winner to order a Custom Knife.

The Crab Shack makes one custom knife, Jerry Wonka sells more Grab Bags.

P.S. In the zodiac, the Crab is associated with Cancer (June 21/22 - July 21/22). Fourth Of July would be a good time to schedule such an event.
