Tell me about VG10

About all I can find on the internet about VG-10 is some Spyderco stuff and a bunch of laminated kitchen knives. Hard to even find a decent heat treat recipe.

I have a piece 3/8 thick by 5x7, roughly. I have this crazy idea to do a keyhole integral, because WTH not?

How is VG10 for polishing and/or grinding after heat treat? What does it compare to? Anybody got a good heat treat recipe?

I'd like to know where you got it? I've been told it is very similar to Boehler N690, and Alpha has the HT info for that. I have several knives in VG10 and it is my favorite steel because it holds such a fine edge. Good luck!

I got it in trade from a guy who buys pallets from a Bohler-Uddeholm location, I think in Ohio? He gets all the "drops" he wants, for free. He traded me a bunch of odd sized stuff, like 4" round D2. The main thing I got out of the trade that I really wanted was some 2" square 4140 to make some treadle hammer dies.
