Tell me this doesn't creep you out!!

Too Much Information.

Anyone who posts any picture is opening themselves up to stalking? Possibly, and this is the early stages of the technology.

I can imagine getting tired of some Facebook "friend". I can imagine being really tired of some Facebook neighbor who drops by constantly.

Yeah I don't like this at all. Thanks for posting this, I will be sure to let my family know. Now, they mention that this only works for smart phone and GPS enabled cameras, so I will no longer use my iphone for pics and I will be sure to buy a non-GPS enabled camera:thumbup: Or better yet I just won't post pics. This is something that we should all be aware of when we are showing off our gear on these forums.

I wasn't aware of this, thanks for the heads-up. The way things go, it seems sooner or later we'll all end with microchips embedded in our bodies. :(

All digital photos from cellphones are automatically geotagged??? You're right, that is creepy, and you can be sure it was deliberately integrated into the programming.

Only one of my cheapo cellphones had a camera and it still has the plastic cover on the lens. On the few rare occasions that I need to post a digital photo I use a cheapo digital camera -- no GPS in that thing.

Too late! Buy stock in foil now!:D

If anyone wants to find your address they can look in the phone book. What's the big deal? Who cares if you know where my coffee shop is?

I went to the I Can Stalk You website that was mentioned.

According to the site, "it's easy" to turn off the GPS feature.

Seems easy enough. Kinda sucks for mac users like myself as I have to turn off the option which allows me to locate my iphone on my mac if I ever lose it. I guess sacrifices have to be made for privacy.

True, but don't forget about internet stalkers, people you don't know and they won't even need your name. If you take a pic inside your home showing all the nice things you have, post it to the net and anyone who sees this pic can see what you have and find it.

You can turn that off, or remove the tags personally. It's not really a big deal, it shows you how uneducated people are in their daily lives, not caring to understand the world around them.

If I post a pic to my Facebook or Twitter account it has my name on it anyway. Any other account would take all of 5 seconds to figure out who Gulliamo is. My stuff isn't worth much and what little I do have is likely in the way upper-right quadrant of the risk-vs-reward matrix. I guess if you have a lot of really cool, uninsured stuff that know one would ever suspect then this could be dangerous... (e.g. Don't post a pic of a pile of gold in a barn.)

Its something to be mindful of but I don't think its necessary to go as far as to not post pictures.

I mean if your showing off your new ESEE-4 or whatever and I get your address, what can I really do with it that could harm you. Right now a script kitty could nab everyone location just by visiting blade forums, or worse. The reason people don't is because the information is useless.

lets not forget the phone book listed just about everybody's name, number and address 10 years ago and the world never crumbled. Unless your posting a 10,000 dollar item. Don't worry too much about it.

Just my opinion.

+1 That's the point I was trying to make. You articulated it much better. :)

Well said! This is a feature that is easy to turn on or off.

I love how some people seem to be amazed by the consequences of their own actions.

Well, I sorta knew this a while ago. Even if you can't trace by pictures, you can just take an IP address easily. Now, I'm not exactly concerned about stalkers, but there are several precautions I take so I'm not so easily accessible.

Scary, huh?

Scary?
Your IP address and other information are only visible to YOU, not to others, but because people see their own IP address and computer information displayed on a blog or in a public forum, they think that their information can be seen by everyone!
Explaining that over and over is one of the things I don't miss in my retirement from moderating.
