I thought up a new Idea about a tool used for cleaning a sebenza. I wanted to get your oppinion, good or bad.
well here it is, Sebenza, alan wrench, and my tool.

Normally when cleaning a sebenza you unscrew the pivot screw and push the pin out. I use this tool to push the pin out with the tool and open the blade safely out. Then I pull the tool out and pull the knife from the handle.

I use the tool to clean the small pieces on the knife so I don't loose the parts.

I use the tool to push the pivot out from the blade and clean old grease and dirt in it.

The pieces of the sebenza can be easily picked up and put into place with the too.

this picture shows that the pin doesn't jut go in and you have to align the pivot with the handle.

with this tool I just put it in the pivot area and pus firmly and the pin slides in real smooth.

I just want to know what you guys think, I would like to market the tool but I would like to have you knife guys honest opinion.

Cool. Basic... but cool. Is this made for another application or did you turn it on a lathe or something?

Very nice. I like the idea for the convenience, and not worrying about damaging parts with it.

Cool idea, one question.... can one make it with a magnet inside strong enough to work through the plastic? That might help with picking up all the parts. Other then that I just use the allen key to align the knife and pivot holes for the pin.

In my original Idea I would have the allen wrench tool attached to the back with cap that screws over it. I have lack of resources so it was kind of like work with what you have. I originally wanted to create one that could be put on a key-chain so when you hunt or fish. you can easily clean your sebenza out doors. I have been using this prototype for about a year and it has fitted my blade back into perfect alignment with the handle every time. Strider has a hinder tool and I figured for such a good quality knife as the sebenza, the sebenza should have the same respect.

I like marthinus' idea of a magnet inside the plastic. But I'd prefer your tool over the allen key for aligning things, for a couple reasons (and things definitely do need to be aligned on CRK folders; I've been driven to fits at times becuase I can't get things perfectly in place and then everything--from blade centering to ease/smoothness of cycling--goes wonky on the knife). First, your tool's circumference is tapered and thus diverse, so it can fit the entire range of CRK folders, from the Umfaan to Umnumzaan... and any other knife brand for that matter. Second, it is plastic and will be less prone to scratching the delicate blasted Ti finish of many CRK folders. Many won't care about this last benefit, but I'm sure many more will.

Thing is, I don't know if I'd be willing to pay more than a few dollars for something like that. Silly, I know, given the very usefulness of it that I just described.

Good luck with your venture.

I contacted some molding companies and they said that the expensive part would be making mold, after that the tool would be so inexpensive to produce that even a couple of dollars would have a huge profit. I was like you I had a hard time aligning the pivot with the handle, and all you guys know that if everything is not perfect the lock bar and everything is not aligned with each other. I used to spend lots of time with a flashlight trying to get things together right. It literally takes me 5sec using this tool. I thank you guys for all the support you guys are giving me.

Now if you get that done you will have hit a home run all the way out of the park in my books!

It looks like the tool isn`t really a necessity, but like it makes things more convinent. I think I`d try it out too, if it were decently priced! :)

I've been using a tapered aluminum rod for the same purpose. Your design and selection of material for the tool appears superior to what I came up with. I'd be interested in one or two if they were reasonably priced. OldDude1

Keychain gadgets get knocked around. Gadgets with other gadgets inside them lose the original snug fit with use. I would suggest a small box with CRK lube, microfiber cloth or small chamois, hex key, and your plastic aligner. Leave out the fluorinated grease and you could fit it all in a baby soda bottle AKA tube vault.

nice use for plastic, slave pins are usually made with metal and are used for trigger work alot

Looks nice. I'm partial to the "better" plastics like Delrin. If you did a run of these I could see ~$15-20 per tool if the initial run is small.

I was thinking that the whole thing would be formed out of a very hard plastic, in thought for such a beautiful knife I wanted to make something simple that would not harm the knife. the prototype that you see is just something I put together just to see if my idea would work. the hole on the top where the alen wrench could use a lanyard or put on a keychain or you can lanyard it to the sebenza it self.
thank you guys for the good comments

Pretty cool idea and tool prototype.

I had just been using a whittled piece of wood or modified golf tee for disassembly. Your tool is much better and does more.

I like your tool idea. Its not a necessity, but its very convient though. I especially like the original design with the hex tool implemented. I would probably get on if reasonably priced also......I operate an injection molding machine at work as I mold DVD and Blu-Ray discs. This could be easily molded. The plant I am working at is going to go under within the year, my wife is losing her job August 2. They told me I am staying until next year, but I dont see it. If not for this, I would see if I could have helped you get it manufactured. The mold is expensive, but once made, it would only cost cents to make each one. Keep up posted and let us know how you make out and if you get them made, when and where they will be available. Good Luck !!!

I thank you for the support of my idea and I hope things get better for you. my family will be praying for you and your family.
