My Guess... Good ole American Poplar..

don't know it came out of a bed that was 30-40 yeas old.

Then I agree with Jason. It looks like poplar. Do you have an idea of the hardness? (Can you dig your fingernail into it easily?)

Tulip poplar is a soft hardwood with fine grain.It's got green in it but with exposure to light the green turns to brown. This happens in a short time with any type of light. It's often used in a home for molding and trim which is to be painted.
