Tell why you rotate EDC's

Exactly. I'd say for my self most of the time why I rotate my EDC knife is out of boredom. Since I was a kid I have a tendency of putting my favourite toy aside once I've had fun with it for a long while, suddenly remember some other old toys in the drawer, and I'd took them out and playing with them as if they are new. It goes like a cycle. :)

Yeah, baby! It's like that. :D
I have so many that it feels like I got a new toy all the time. ;)

The HARD part is figuring out which 2 or 3 to take with me on vacation!

.

Dullness, lack of matter separating ability, not sharp.

It goes into the "to be sharpened box" till I get enough for a good movie, then I pull out the hones, stones and EdgePro and go to town, I have enough EDC's in rotation I could go a year before seein' the same knife again.

Mood mostly. For the most part, my knives are equally nice or "classy" (although not really that classy), so carrying one over the other for work isn't really an issue.

For the longest time I did not really rotate my EDC. Then after getting 15 or 20 pocket clip folders and a half dozen or so SAK plus uncounted amounts of different sized fixed blades. I realized that instead of buying a new knife whenever I wanted a change, maybe I should dig into the safe and take out one that I had to have at one time or another. I have enjoyed revisiting my knives on a user level weekly now. That is my EDC rotation schedule now. On the weekend I decide which of my loves to revisit. ;)

being a teacher in a public school....

so little time.. so many knives!

Rotation creates suspense for the people around me. When they see my hand go into my pocket they wonder what kind of knife will come out :p.

You folks who stick to the same exact knife just kill me. Don't you know what kind of fun you are missing out on by not switching things around? I don't know how you guys stand the boredom. Well, I guess you are asking, "Hey smart mouth trane fan what do you EDC?". Well, I'll be glad to tell you. I rotate between my Mnandi with African Blackwood Inlays and, are you ready for this, my Mnandi with Bocote Inlays.   See, I've gone wild with my EDC. :p :D ;)

I rotate mainly to try out new knives. Other times, it's to give a knife a second chance  This is especially true if you find a problem with the feel of it, rather than performance, I have found. Having said that, it's a very odd time I'd go back to a knife again and then like it!

Generally, I would carry my rotation EDC knife for a week. Then, sharpen it, oil it and change to another.

An exception is my good knives, which are only carried when dressed. They may only be out once a month, or less.

The fellas who said, because I can, have a point :p

I rotate for a number of reasons, although I carry a Buck Alpha crosslock on a belt sheath all the time. My secondary knife is always a clip knife, and it rotates depending upon the pants I'm wearing to work. I don't like the clip to be too obvious on the outside of my clothing, so I wear a knife with a black-coated clip with dark pants and a brushed steel clip with khakis.

Other than that, I switch things up based on whatever whim strikes me on a given day.

Cheers,

Mike

I carry a Vic Settler all the time. I ususally carry a second (or more) knife for variety. This will be either another SAK, or my CRK Mnandi, depending on needs or mood.

Mostly because there are so many great knives out there, a few of which I own, and each has different characteristics - blade steel, locking mechanism, overall design, blade shape and geometry, size, etc.

It is FUN to rotate EDCs.

It's nice to give each of the knives I own a day out. If I didn't rotate, I might forget how unique they are.
