Telling the difference between D2 and A2 steel?

Hi there,
My first post, so cheers to everyone :). I got a bar of eighter D2 or A2 steel - I just don't know. Is there a way to tell which one it is? It's not magnetic. I would appreciate some help. Though I am not sure if one can tell the difference at all. It might be impossible to answer... Let's see! :)
thanks!
What makes you think it is a2 or d2???

Also. Some scrapyards, and other places have xrf they could maybe help you out. As well as heat treating places.

Blankblank Blankblank : Somebody gave it to me and told me he wasn't sure which one of the two it is
pafka pafka : that's a good deal for you! I only have less than one meter of the stuff so it's not worth any payment for testing. Thanks anyway :)

Well. If you arent sending it to get tested. Its not going to be of any use to you really.

You wont be able to ht it without knowing which, the range is off by a decent ammount.

If you had an hrc tester and kiln you could heat it up following a protocol for a2, test the hardness and see if its in the right range. And repeat for the d2 protocol.
