temp accuracy in evenheat kiln

I bought a high end tc meter and tc's from omega, and I did a single point calibration using fine silver wire. I expect my measurements to be +- 6 degrees.

Accurate temperatures are important to share with other people, or to translate to different setups. But you should expect the oven to be reasonably precise, even if not accurate. Then you can run coupons. With hyper eutectic steels you will notice a drop in hardness due to RA. Dial your temperature back from that point.

Mind sharing which one you bought? I'm trying to find one that is long enough to measure most of the oven (22.5") through a small hole drilled in the door and will go high enough to check stainless temps. I know I'm probably missing it but not finding one that meets both.

I drilled a new hole near the back, on the top of the oven, so I didn't need an extension, but if you do, you can buy from them extension cable (naked) and spot welded to the tc.

In retrospect, however, I would choose for a fixed mount of a couple of tcs, and a sheathed tc for more long term stability. I would choose this one: TJ36-CAIN-14 from here: http://www.omega.com/pptst/TJ36-XCiB_chb.html
