Temperance 2 sheath for mule team

Have any of you used the temp 2 sheath for the mule team? I am trying to decide between making a sheath or buying the temp 2 sheath. I was thinking that it could be possible to re-mold the welt in of the temperance 2 sheath so that more of the mule team's handle would be covered, effectively making use of the full length of the sheath.

I carry one of my Mules in a Buck 192 Vanguard sheath. Excellent retention, although somewhat larger overall than actually needed.

When you say it is a bit larger than needed, is that in terms of depth of the sheath or width? It seems like a nice alternative compared to the expensive temperance sheath, and will be better quality than my lacking leather working skills can supply.

I've got one of the leather Temp2 sheaths and several mules. It works, although as I recall it fits the Temp2 better than it does the mules. I typically use a generic 7" leather sheath for the mules because I like to get most of the handle down inside the sheath to lower the center of gravity. The trick is to get a sheath wide enough to accept the finger guard of the mule and then I wet fit them.

I find that solution more satisfactory than the Temp2 sheath. If I decide to carry the Temp2 I'll get a longer sheath for it as well.

We're thinking of making a Mule Team sheath similar to the Temp 2 sheath, but sized for the MT. thoughts?

How would you take into account the various scale sizes? I love the idea, but I also really like my current sheath. Then again if the option had been there prior to my acquisition I probably would have gotten the Spyderco one, for what that is worth. By the way thanks for the awesome knives and the great company. Its not often that I feel loyalty toward a company these days. You sir have earned mine.

The Vanguard's blade is about 3/4" longer than the Mules's blade, so the sheath is deeper than necessary. The width is perfect.

I would love to see a proper mule team sheath offered from spyderco. While I do like the style of the temperance 2 sheath, I think that a sheath similar to Neffarious's would be nice. You could even leave it non-finished so that purchasers could customize it to their liking in terms of wet molding, dying, etc. That would make for a nice package and keep the costs down, as well as sticking with the diy nature of the mule team blanks. Do you have any estimate as to when you would be expecting these to be put into production?

The Vanguard's blade is about 3/4" longer than the Mules's blade, so the sheath is deeper than necessary. The width is perfect.

That seems like it will serve as a temporary solution until I can save enough for a custom sheath or for spyderco to release one. Thanks for the info!

Mule team standard

To all Mule Team members: I would like to put forth an idea regarding the development of a control or standardized model to be used in testing past, current and future Mule Team blade steels. I am seeking interest and opinions to encourage Spyderco to create a regular model for their line. Called the MULE (FB??P), it would use the current Mule blade pattern, standard VG-10 steel (or possibly S30V), have a FRN or G-10 (from Halpern Titanium?) bolt-on handles, and a Boltaron (or FRN) sheath. I think that the Mule is a great utility design that is not being used to its full potential.

In most traditional comparative testing, one uses a standard or control for comparison which this working utility knife would provide. In addition, by introducing a complete knife, the handle and sheath would be available for other Mule Team blades being easily interchanged to make everyday carry and testing more accessible. A regular model would also expose more ELU to the Mule Team project expanding greater participation and exchange of ideas and cutting experience. I value your comments and thoughts. How about it Sal?

I have four Mules that all share one kydex sheath. If you make a leather Mule sheath I will buy at least a couple.

Sales would be going through the roof with a mule team package!!! For that price you would be competing with a lot of manufacturers in the 3-4" fixed blade category... And very few are offering exotic blade steels for that type of money.

Alrighty, I finally found a sheath I think will fit! After digging through countless threads on multiple forums (no kidding here, probably 3 hours worth of searching and reading), I discovered that my esee 4 and the mule team have almost the same blade height, and the mule team has roughly the same blade length as the esee 3. So, I started searching around for esee 3 sheaths that might fit the mule team and I came across a maker by the name of Charlie Cline. The sheaths he makes for the esee 3 are just what I was looking for style wise and it looks like they will fit a mule team! I ordered a sheath and will post whether it works out when it gets here. Now the waiting game begins...

The sheath I ordered from Charlie Cline came in last night, and it fits very well. I am debating wet-forming it to fit the knife, but in the meantime it is tight enough that it can be shaken upside down without the blade falling out.
