Tempature control will be discussed when it is time in the sand pot thread. It's quite easy and not very expensive.

If your sand-pot heat source is PID controlled the PID will serve as the readout. If you are using the readout as a separate gauge, the one you show will work. You can't use the cheap TC that comes with it, though. For a sand pot of forge, you will need a heavy gauge TC with a sheath. In a forge, use an 8 gauge type K TC and a ceramic sheath. For a salt pot or sand pot, you want a heavy duty monel clad type K TC.

The prices shown are crazy. You should be able to get a similar unit on eBay or from some other supplier for less than $100 EU.

Most folks just buy a PID and use it for a readout only device. That should cost about $30-50 EU. In either case, you will need the proper TC, which should cost about $30-50 EU.

Here is a $40 EU complete PID package with the peripheries that will run the forge/pot, or just be a readout:

I did not want to derail your topic so I opened this one . I need good one because I intend to make sand pot and another one horizontal /just stainless tube inside chamber for quick HT some carbon steel / Ok , I will wait

Stacy is the man when it comes to pid controlling stuff. He helped me many many moons ago when I was just a young lad building my first forge.

Yes, Grasshoppah, you have done well. You came back from your trip to the dark side and now prosper.

Seriously, building my two-stage burner system is so simple that I don't see any reason to build a regular one. Even if you never hooked it to a PID for control, you could use a simple switch to flip it from high to low to save fuel between heats. If you have good shopping skills, the whole burner and PID control can easily be built for $100-150. Many with some scrounging sources have done it for $50.

Fred's Vulcan's Chariot is superb, but the photo links have gone dead. Maybe Fred will post some old and new ones here.

Thanks Stacy , as I say I know nothing about this . Well , It is good to know that I can use PID only for reading temp. Can you please pick right TC for me to bye? Now I suppose that all TC work with all PID controller ? No mater of which brand they are ?
