So Ive been in Utah for a couple days for my cousins wedding. I flew from SC with only carry on bags and I felt completely naked without a knife. We went to Wally World to get some groceries and I wandered over to sporting goods. I found an Ozark Trail folding knife for $1. I bought it just to feel better about myself. Now I have a knife for a few days that I can toss in the trash before I get back on the plane Wednesday to come home. Anyone ever done something like this? All I can say is I can't wait to have my 2 dot Buck 110 back on my belt!!

I don't travel too much so haven't needed to yet. I'd have went for a SAK or a Kershaw if they had it though.

I've "checked" my knife taped inside a cardboard box before. Usually, I don't travel with just carry ons, but I could see me doing something this, but I would buy a decent knife and mail it home before I left.

Found myself on an out of town job without a pocketknife once. Went to the large home improvement store next to the hotel and bought a Victorinox Cadet for $13. I sure as heck didn't throw it away though - it's a great knife and I still use it today.

I've also seen some of those current Ozark Trail knives. My kid 'won' one at a Cub Scout meeting, but it's seriously not safe enough to use. I wouldn't trust it, and I wouldn't pay a dollar for one. :thumbdn: I would just go without for a couple of days instead.

That's why I give my Dad so many knifes ---- there's bound to be one he doesn't mid me "commandeering" for a week or two.

Ive bought the Ozark Trail knife before when i forgot a knife. Its a great knife for a buck and terrible against anything else.

It is however a sharpened piece of metal, which is all i require sometimes....

I Bought a Spyderco Saver Salt. Nice bright colour so not to Scary and good around the salt water as we usually to travel to somewhere that there is an ocean.

I've literally had the Ozark fall apart out of the package, every piece just gave. I'm lucky no flights for me lately, just long drives.

Well I'm also on an extreme budget since my wife lost her job so I've quit buying knive right now. I would have much rather bought the Buck Spitfire they had but can't really justify the $30 for a knife. But the OT knife just opened the coffe packet in the hotel room. So far it's worth a dollar. I wouldn't pay any more than that for it!! Haha

sorry to hear about your wife losing her job. i'm watching how i spend everything these days, and saving a little for emergency use.
glad the cheapo knife is working out. if i needed a travel knife, i'd head for the discount store and pick up something for a couple of bucks and than dispose of it when i depart.

My friend has the one dollar Ozark Trail as his EDC. He has no complaints with it. One time he slept over and my girlfriend found it in his blankets after he left, and she asked me if it was his. I was like "is it a cheap POS?". Yup, thats his. But he likes it, pretty much just opens cardboard boxes with it and it works for him. Showed him my Kershaw Corral Creek one day when i was over and hes like "thats nice, but it doesnt open with one hand..."

This

I'd rather pay the few extra bucks up front than pay for stitches later. Doesn't wally world still carry kershaw crowns for around ten bucks?

actually i can't remember the last time i needed a knife when i was on vacation. more like i wish i had a bottle opener or corkscrew on me than a knife.

Victorinox Waiter! It's what I'm getting the ladies for Christmas this year. Twelve bucks of goodness.

You don't carry a bottle opener in your luggage? I might forget a toothbrush and I might forget to pack underwear, but I would never forget the bottle opener. :D
